Question about child support and taxes.
Haven't been on here since I found out SD was approached by a girl at school telling her SD's BM told her to write SD a note to see if SD wanted her to file for custody. So far we haven't heard anything yet but who knows.
On the same day every month, in my state, child support is increased online by the monthly amount due. BM was ordered to pay current support plus an additional amount a month for arrears. She was behind by $6,000.37. Although she was ordered to pay a set amount she would pay like $145.00 one month and then like 7 weeks later pay something like $79.00. This has gone on for a year. She has been ordered for the last 3 years to pay support but just starting paying last year when she was put on probation for nonpayment.
Anywho. About a week ago child support was updated to the amount of $6000.37 that she owed. Tonight I was checking the child support and it says that $6000.37 was credited to the account, but hasn't been paid yet.
From the looks of it BM filed her taxes within the last couple of days and IRS seen she owed support so sent the payment to child support office. What I'm asking is, how often does IRS see the updated amount owed for child support? Is it real time or does child support office just sends the amount to IRS that is owed at the beginning of the year? I know this is really confusing but if anyone knows ANYTHING about the process of child support and taxes, can you please let me know.
BM obviously had to of filed her taxes within the last couple of days in order for IRS to know the new amount that was just updated. How long after someone files their taxes does IRS take their refund?
