Poor SS

My poor SS5 Sad As a background, my DH and I just took full custody of SS5 because his BM is in such a poor state physically and financially that we feel she is unable to take care of him right now. It has been almost a week and a half since he has spent any time with her.

Tonight I met my DH at an event to pick up SS when it was close to bedtime. When SS and I were getting in the car he said "Can we go to Mommy's?" and my heart broke for the kid, he never asks to see either of his parents because the custody had been so even. I said "No, Kiddo, I know she misses you very much but she's sick right now and can't take care of you until she gets better. But you know she loves you right?" and he said "yeah"
"And you know Daddy loves you right?'
"yeah"
"And you know I love you right?"
"Yeah"
"So no matter where you go you are loved"

Then when I was tucking him into bed he said "Mommy's still sick?" Beee Poor thing, I feel like a sad substitute for his real mom.

Sad That is so sad. I have a 5 year old little girl and I know the kind of look your SS must have given you when he asked if his mommy was still sick.

I have no good advice for you. I'm just so very sorry that he is going through that. You're not not not a sad substitute for his mother. You're a wonderful motherly "figure" who is there for him when he needs one the most. He will begin to understand and appreciate this.

hi i read enough into other blogs to know that the bm is indeed sick.i wasn't sure if it was an illness or something else . i am just curious how yall handle it. does the skid see his mom at all since she is sick or do yall not want him to see her that way?
