I never breast fed any of my 6 children and I feel as though I have a wonderful bond with each and every one of them. My advice is to use the pump between feedings to give yourself a break. Breast feeding should be a good experience for baby AND mommy and right now it's not sounding very good for you. Maybe if you would have only had one baby your mother's advice would be OKAY but you had twins and that's double the feedings.

Princess use the pump the more stressed you are the less you can produce and you are producing for 2 so use the pump and bond with the bottle - also if you pump your hubby can help you -

Congratulations on your twins, Princess!

Yes, it does get better, definitely! The first week is rocky with your body recovering from the stresses of birth, and it's very normal to have nursing pain. Your nipples will become much less sensitive after a bit of time, and the babies will do a better job of latching on. Also in the first week, we often have so much milk that the whole letdown reflex just plain hurts and sometimes our milk ducts are just really full. Hang in there -- it's so worth it! -- and most likely all will go well. Mothers of twins do just fine with nursing.

It's not usually very helpful to use a pump if you're undergoing nipple pain; part of what needs to happen is that you and your babies have to learn how to do it together. Plus pumping often takes longer to empty your breast, and then you have to deal with all the storage and bottle issues that nursing allows you to be free of.

Here's a great resource with info on how to deal with the different kinds of nursing pain: (Scroll down past the first couple paragraphs where they talk about pre-birth preparation and you'll find lots and lots of helpful suggestions about how to be more comfy.) Plus it's just a great website for support for the act of nursing itself:

It gets easier and if you stick with it you won't regret it.

Make sure the baby is latched correctly. If the latch isn't good the pain will be unbearable.

It's OK to pump too, you'll have plenty of bonding time.

Congratulations on making the choice to breastfeed. It's a completely different experience from formula feeding, nothing else compares. I won't reiterate all the benefits to mother and baby because by now everyone should know them by heart.

I've breastfed 4, one of whom I had to pump every feeding because she had no suck reflex. If you want more help feel free to PM me.

Yes breastfeeding is awesome, but with both of my bs it took 2-3 weeks for it to become "easy". I thought of giving up many times, but called my local la leche group and spoke with really helpful moms. One even came to my house to help me to get him to latch properly. Don't give up!!! Pm me with any questions.
