child support

okay...so, i figure a lot of you may know about this, but we are being sued for child support...any advice anyone has as far as whether or not to get a lawyer etc would be really helpful. I'm sure plenty of you have gone through this so hopefully you guys can help. as it is now, we have to pay the court fees...i'm new at all of this so i'm not sure what to think. let me know if anyone has suggestions!

Some questions - why are you being sued? Has the father been paying anything? Does he see the kids? Need a little more information.

he hasn't...but as far as i know, he has joint physical custody. they went to court a long time ago, several years i think, way before I came along. we have her several days throughout the week, though there has never been a routine set up like the every other weekend thing or whatever. we provide food, clothes, school supplies etc.

Yes, you'll need a lawyer. Hopefully he has a written document that details the decision for shared custody and no money exchange. You should document the amount of time the child spends with each parent, and the things your husband supplies for the child (ie. room, bed, clothes, food, school stuff etc.)
But a lawyer is highly recommended.

Yes. you must get a lawyer. without a lawyer you will be chewed up and spit out. get a lawyer and document everything!

Definitely get a lawyer. They are expensive, but definitely worth it.

it is worth it. I am sure that she is going to make up some crap like you never have the kids in order to get more support.
