Did ya miss it!?
Ok, so we have a small house, it was my dh's home and we moved here because the payment was cheaper and I was just renting. I love this house, the location, the size, the price. The only draw back is we don't have an area for any kind of kitchen table. So, we eat off tv trays in the living room. At first we never had the TV on then time went on, and now the TV is always on when we eat. I know its not that healthy but it doesn't totally bother me. Well, last night we were watching a show on the DVR and I saw my son shoveling food into his mouth from his plate. I paused the TV and yelled at him. I know we don't have formal eating area but we still need to use manors. Well, my dh got pissed because I was intrupting his tv time.
See, dh wants to come home from his 12 hour day and watch tv and go into his 'nothing' box. Thats great, but thats why we have a DVR. Things can get paused, stoped, and backed up. Life does not end if we missed the word someone said. He throws a fit if someone talks during 'his' show, or if one of the kids are to loud and he has to back it up to catch what the person said.
My thoughts is that TV is not that important and life will not end if you miss something. I don't know how to stop the behavior in my dh but i am trying to always show my kids how the world doesn't stop turning when we have to use the bathroom and didn't pause the tv. I suggested to my dh that we need to have the tv off during dinner... again the world stopped.
I swear in two hours the world stopped turning and ended...

all his fav shows gets
all his fav shows gets recorded the night before. so all he has to do is pause it if he is right in the middle of it, or wait to start watching it until dinner is over. for some reason that is difficult for him to understand. men...
I completely agree. I hate
I completely agree. I hate that we now have cable. For about a year we only had internet through our local cable company - ah, life was grand! Then someone in a kiosk at the mall talked my DH into adding cable to his package for only $5 more per month than he's paying now. Yeah, um . . . we were paying $45/mo, now we're paying $245/mo. I could effing strangle him; the only reason he did it is b/c he wanted to be able to watch football games on tv instead of having to stream them from the internet - which was FREE! To make matters worse, he had to sign a 2 yr contract to get it at such a "great price," and didn't even think about the fact that he's deploying in about a month and won't even be here to watch it. That's $200/mo WASTED!!!!!!
Oh my thats a ton!!! we only
Oh my thats a ton!!! we only pay 70 for our cable and internet! There are shows I actually really like to watch, and we watch a lot of history and discovery channel. I won't ever pay that much for anything. I would be angry!!!
Thats all we watch too....and
Thats all we watch too....and Investigation ID...getting addicted to that channel. Wednesday night is the only night I watch CBS, or football/basketball games.
Shame we can't pick the channels we want and then pay per channel.
I love History and Discovery
I love History and Discovery channels, but this "great deal" only included basic channels, so we don't get those. But, we do watch the shows (The Universe is one of my favs) on NetFlix which we've had for a few years and only costs $8/mo. I agree, it's an insane ammt of money to be spending on something that is not a necessity especially considering how much we already have going out. I mean I really could just strangle him.
TV off during meals, end of
TV off during meals, end of story. Even MORE so because you don't have a formal eating area.
That is a hard rule at our home-dinner time is all sitting together and talking-sometimes we'll have music on. There are rare ocassions during wknds if we are lunching/snacking we have the tv on, or if dinner consists of something really quick and i'm in the middle of something else.
It's our family time, no tv, interruptions, time to connect as a family. TELL THEM you've implemented a new rule-adn you want to try it for a few weeks and see the results. PROMISE they will be happier also.
BTW your guy sounds extremely selfish and childish, AND impatient.
Like Echo-I think my combined internet/cable/land line is about $150-160 a month-sometimes more if we order on demand movies.
he is he was single for 9
he is
he was single for 9 years, no gf nothing. Just him and a few years his son lived with him. So I have that many years of bachelor freedom to work out of him.
