My3His1's picture

Out of my 3 BIO kids & DH BIO Kid only 2 live with us 24/7 mine & his BD's....mine age 6 & his age 12 ( almost 13 )...At my ex'x house anything goes...no set bed times/ late nights, no set meal times, no structure, no real discipline, buys kids everything they want.....On the flip side @ mine & DH home bedtimes are strictly followed 7pm on School nights/ 9 pm on weekends, set meal times, alot of structure, misbehaviour is punished, we do not allow kids to have tv , cell phone or computer....you do not go to anyones house till we meet parents...

When my sons are here it is a culture shock so to speak & when my daughter goes to dads & comes home shes has hard time.....

Are you strict or not..???

We are strict but we do have TV and before he repeatedly confirmed that he can not handle a computer he had access to computers.

The meet the parents thing before he went to a friends home was our rule also.

Even now that our son (my SS) is 18 he still has a bed time as long as he is in our home. He must be in bed by 11PM and up by 8AM. If we don't keep him on this schedule he will be a zombie with a week.

I think that parental guidelines and consequences are critical for a child and kids without them are being done a disservice by their parents.

IMHO of course.

i'm told i'm "too strict" at times and not strict enough. if the kids are doing good in school and not acting up, then they go to bed when we do (late) on school nights my dd is in bed by 8. if they are acting out or struggling in school, it's a VERY strict schedule, and we can get rough
