OSS finally acted like a teenager! And other musings...
DH had to drop something off with for the boys last night that they needed but forgot at our place over the weekend. When he gets there, he is informed that OSS is over an hour late getting home and wasn't answering his phone.
DH is told where he is and starts heading toward that friend's house. I'm trying to find that friend's phone number and am texting/calling OSS basically saying "you're in deep sh*t with your dad, so you better call him". DH gets in touch with friend's mom and, SURPRISE - OSS isn't there but friend thinks he knows where he is.
Long story short, OSS decided to go to a different friend's house and stay later without informing anyone. A minor teenage offense, but one that scared the everliving hell out of everyone. This DOES tell us, though, that OSS isn't always truthful about what he does or who he is with (which, he's 17; I'm never going to believe he's being a saint 100% of the time). Ah, teenagers.
In other musings, before DH was informed that OSS was missing, he was talking to YSS and asked for their new address since they move TOMORROW and no one has informed DH as to where. YSS hands DH the sheet with the rent, layout, unit address, etc.
According to DH, BM's new rent will be DOUBLE our mortgage. Well f**k.
I get it. They lived in a crappy place. This place looks far less crappy. It will be good for the boys. Etc, etc.
But this is a woman who hasn't been able to afford SOCKS in the past. Who just this past weekend asked if DH had bought new clothes for OSS. Who has had 3-4 jobs in the last 12 months. Who married a guy 4 weeks after dating him.
As much as this isn't my problem, I can't help but sit here and do the math in my head. Either this dude makes substantial middle class income OR BM has made yet another poor life decision that will result in much wailing and gnashing of teeth in the future.
God love DH that he's trying to see the positive in this. He can be the hopeful on in this, because I'm just seeing dollar signs and a ticking time bomb.

I'm always glad to hear about
I'm always glad to hear about teens doing teen things nowadays - ie, lying to parents and breaking curfew. So often they are just home playing video games and texting all the time, or their parents have them on lockdown and track their phones everywhere.
Of course he should get in trouble, but at least he's acting age-appropriate.
I just hope BMs bad life
I just hope BMs bad life choice doesn't turn into your DH giving her more money than he can afford when she starts crying about how they have no money and can't pay rent.
