O/T Sort of...but when do we start to take accountability?
I know I am guilty of the lack of accountability at times. Since becoming a criminal defense attorney I would like to think that I have gotten better about understanding that if I really think about the situations I am in, I can trace it back to some decision that I have made that has exacerbated my situation, even if I didn't start the problem.
The reason I ask is because day in and day out I listen to people (mostly clients) who have gotten the blame game down to an absolute science. For fuck's sake, you can't get a lower bond if you don't show up for court when you are supposed to, and I can't help you if you don't contact me until the day you have court.
I spent a mind numbing hour on the phone with a client who had an answer for everything, and I mean literally everything I said. And when she didn't like what I had to say about her situation she would start screaming. One of these days I am going to answer the phone and start out my conversations like this, "Before you say anything understand that at the end of this covnersation two things are going to happen, you are going to go to jail and I am going to go to lunch."
Man people irk me today.

My favorite is when they tell
My favorite is when they tell me the police lied to them. Hey asshole, they are allowed to do that. If you are so stupid that you would fall for half of what they tell you, you probably should just make your way to the nearest exit of the gene pool.
->"Before you say anything

That made me laugh out loud.
After my first year of
After my first year of practicing as a PD I put up a poster board in my office that had the top ten phrases clients were not allowed to say in my office because they didn't know what they meant:
Miranda rights
Double Jeopardy
Entrapment
Police Brutality
Self Defense
Witness Tampering
Parental Rights
Proper Parenting Skills
Accountability
Birth Control.
My boss thought it was hilarious but made me take it down after a week. Apparently some of my more amorous clients took offense to the last one.
