I give up
I practiced law as a divorce attorney for about a year and to be honest with you, there is a reason I came back to criminal defense. I couldn't stand dealing with people who complained about every little thing and would ask all the time what they were paying me for. Dont' get me wrong, my clients complain now, but the difference is, as court appointed counsel I am only in control of so much and they can't complain that they wasted their money. Plus, when I don't have to worry about chasing them down to get their payments, I can focus on what I really love, which is the practice of law.
In the time that I did private work, however, I have never seen anything so asinine as what I am seeing now, what SO is going through. The court ordered that her parents could supervise visits, but didn't put any limits on the amount of time. Left that to their discretion apparently. Great. The court ordered us to transport them 90 miles round trip every other weekend. The court ordered us to provide this crazy bitch with a phone number so that she can call and harass us whenever she wants. The court ordered us to give her $6k out of his retirement account. And the one thing SO got? $300.00 a month, for four kids. Because this lazy bitch can't get a real job. She hasn't had a job in over a year. I have been supporting her kids, and now, thanks to a judge that I genuinely used to respect, we get to spend every dime of child support transporting these kids. Yay.
I don't get it, but I do finally understand how my clients used to feel. There is no justice in the world. If there were, that bitch would be dead from her drinking. Is that really so much to ask?

You are absolutely right! There is NO JUSTICE for the ones who DESERVE it....a customer at my job made a good point today...ASSHOLES never get in trouble!!! UGH!!!
I just love living in an ass-backwards world where the good guy gets fucked and the bad guy gets away with pretty much everything....makes me DEFINITELY want to GIVE THE FUCK UP TOO!!!

I think the key, though, is that once the jerks get in trouble or in a sticky situation, they get out of it better. Why? They have more experience, and frankly, no one expects better from them.
So the key for the good folks is to stay far away from the jerks and not get involved with their nonsense.

That is not my experience overall. Being honest and responsible get you places. I have gotten help from people who would not have helped me if they did not like me. If I was a jerk, no one would have helped.

DH and I had this discussion
DH and I had this discussion last night. He wants BM to die a slow, painful death. I said as long as she does it the day after SD turns 19 and child support stops, she can get hit by a damn bus for all I care! Not before then though, because I will NOT live with SD and boy would SD have a huge dramatic meltdown and milk her mother's death for all it's worth. She did the same with her grandpa last year. STILL does. She complained ALL THE TIME about grandpa living with them, eating her special snacks and cereal, hogging the tv. Oh but when he passed from cancer after being diagnosed 8 yrs ago and living 7 yrs past what the docs said he would, she FLIPPED SHIT and it was "ooooh poor SD, she just lost her grandpa"...ate up all the sympathy and attention even though in reality, she could give two shits about him.

Well, we got some clarification. The orders are temporary and since they aren't final orders they are not appealable. The court did not specify a time period but the judge came back after the attorneys called and specified 9-5. The 6k is from his retirement account which I understand, but considering that he is the one paying all the debt because she is just now working I would think the judge would say let's wait until the final hearing before we distribute anything.
As far as how she lives, her parents own a bunch of rental properties and she lives in one of them with her boyfriend, who incidentally is the step father of her last boyfriend. He pays her rent and her bills. She just got a job as a seasonal worker at a call center so she is making 9 an hour. The income earning potential will only come up at trial which we can't get to because she continues to refuse to participate in mediation. She keeps telling the kids when she gets them they will never see us again. We have told DH's attorney and he has stated that because it's hearsay it won't come in. That's true, to a point, but it's not really being offered for it's truth, only for it's effect on the kids, but he doesn't seem to grasp that. I think we just have to grit our teeth and bear it for now and hope that she screws up. MIL was pissed when she found out the time period because she wanted to keep them over night. She has been feeding BM information which we found out after his deposition yesterday so he's done playing nice with this family.
I am not handling his divorce, nor would I. Truth be told I am trying my best to stay out of it but when it affects me because it affects the kids and my pocketbook I can't help but vent about it.

Yes. She was dating some 25
Yes. She was dating some 25 year old and living with him. Then one night they were all partying (mind you this is second hand information) and this ex stepfather (who is 45) was at their apartment. While her boyfriend ran to get more alcohol, she had sex with his step dad. Then the bf came home, caught them in flagrante and to make it up to him she had sex with him later that night. This comes from a girl she went to treament with that was up here partying and she told the BM's brother so it's maybe or maybe not reliable but we do know for sure that he is the exbf's former stepdad.
This is mild in comparison. Three months ago she had some guy come home with her and she and he had sex in front of the stepdad while he was laying on the couch recovering from appendicitis surgery. We know this one is fact because he called MIL and the police and there is a police report. He woke up in the middle but couldn't do anything because of his stitches. They tried to evict her but then he decided he didn't want her to leave.
We found out shortly thereafter (when she was hospitalized two days later) that she has genital warts, which she didn't have when she and SO were married, and SO has tested clean for everything.
The cops have been to her house at least a dozen times over the past three months. She is still going to court for her criminal charges and the night she was arrested for her DUI (this doesn't include the DUS or the domestic assault) she pulled her pants down and pissed all over the booking room at the jail because she was throwing a tantrum. Yeah, she's a charmer.
