Weekday birthday parties

I love dogs's picture

Who does that?? SD's friend's bday is today and DH text me that somehow it's his job to get SD there at 6pm- and provide a gift card. First off, it's BM's time so he was stupid to agree. Now he has to leave work early and BM and GBM are just at home.

Last year this kid had a birthday party at a family fun center and bowling and one other activity was paid for by the parents. I'm not saying they have to top it but why a school night? I hope if I have kids that their friends don't invite them to a weekday bday party.

This kid is week on/ week off with his parents so his mom has him until this Sunday or Monday and has had him since yesterday or Sunday.

The only thing stupider then these parents is your Disney dh lol- wth? Why would he agree on bm's time? Pffft...

No idea. I guess he couldn't tell princess no. SD is a good kid and I get he wants as much time with her as possible but I told him wth pretty much.

I guess so. The kid lives in our neighborhood so SD is getting dropped off with us in an hour and BM allowed her to stay the night so I guess it's a win.

I wonder if that is why BM feels it's your DH's responsibility because the kid lives in your neighborhood??? More like the birthday kid is associated with DH and not BM?

Any person can have a week day party..... it's much better then week-end and most times cheaper.. but if you do not like your kid going out on a school night you can simply decline... nothing to it. Your DH agreed, his problem, he could've told BM sorry but I'm working and she's on your time..
he did not he choose to jump when BM snapped her fingers...

I use to have Deigma's parties on week days, cancelled out the sleeping over arrangements and asking, which they did on week-ends cause there's no school. It was very easy, pick all up after school, go to a nice activity place, let them have fun ... by 5pm it's over, drop all the kids off at their homes and they have enough time to do home work and get ready for the next day.

We had birthday dinners with a few friends. Pizza or something easy. A Video or went to a movie. Dropped the 2-3 extras off and back home by 8:30pm. Less fuss, less expense. No weekend disruption to the rest of the family while 'birthday guest' attends another annual gala known as 'Friends Birthday Party."

Ok I can understand this POV, Acratopotes and oneoffour. Establishments aren't too packed on weekdays and no need to disrupt the weekend. This was an extremely last minute plan (as in no kids got invited until yesterday) and only 2 other kids showed up because of the poorly planned idea. If anything (and I know it didn't affect me) it's just annoying when people spring plans on you the day of but last night worked out well.

I wouldn't have a weekday type of party until the participants were old enough to be getting there by themselves. Certainly not young kids that need to keep to a schedule etc... Now, if teens wanted to meet at the local malt shop (or whatever) on their birthday with friends.. cool. 11 year olds? no... it is not very considerate to the other families that may have work and other activity constraints.

You're assuming this was last minute. BM could have known for a while & not shared. Your skid could have been on guest list 3 or 4, as a "backup" if the preferred friends were unavailable. There are all sorts of possibilities. In the end the real problem is your husband & a responsibility he CHOSE to make his.

I can't imagine doing a weekday party... Schedules are already so busy!

People can have parties whenever they want, they just have to realize that not everyone will want to attend depending on when they scheduled it. The problem here isn't when the party was scheduled but that your DH agreed to let SD go.

BM and GBM are sitting their asses at home and perfectly capable of taking SD, yet they ring up your DH and ask him to leave work early to take her?? AND he says yes?? WTH? :?

Apparently SD text him from GBM's phone before BM was home. BM has a toddler and I think her boyfriend travels during the week but that doesn't mean that she couldn't have loaded them up in her SUV (that DH GAVE her, paid off) and taken her.

BM just keeps giving him extra time so hopefully it's in his favor one of these days.
