Zippy16.5 goes to the Dermatologist
Yesterday DH and Zippy went to the Dermatologist. Zippy has severe acne and the pre-meds his GP gave him-Zippy was non-compliant with the pills and regime.
I sat DH down and said:
Tell the Dr. that Zippy does not do consistent face washing and WILL NOT take the pills because they hurt his stomach (which could have been a legitimate problem). Is there NOT a way to do something whereby Zippy does not have to take pills everyday (which he forgets to do)-and short of his father washing his face, the only time the face gets washed is when he takes his shower (forced by DH) EOD. I jokingly said -"Is there not a once a month shot in the a$$ for acne yet"?
DH: Yup Yup
I repeat this three times to DH. (DH really is not this slow-just when it comes to Zippy for some reason his brain falls out of his head and he gets a goofy love look on his face towards Zippy and all rational bets are off).
Here is what happened according to DH
DH sits in on the visit as he is not confident Zippy will ask the right questions (gee do ya think?).
DH-Zippy has hands on his face all the time (i.e thumb-sucking)-that probably causes some of the out break.
Dr. NOPE-just hormones.
DH: Zippy does not do face washing or pills.
Dr. turns to Zippy and states matter of factly:
"Gee Zippy -most of the teens I see WANT to get rid of their acne, don't you want to get rid of the acne?
Zippy -silence
DH pipes in -"I guess he does not mind it because he won't do what the Dr. says."
Zippy apparently quickly whips his head towards DH and "stares" death rays at his Father. DH feels slightly woozy at this point.
SO the Dr. says to Zippy and DH-Those pills that Zippy was prescribed usually do NOT bother anyone's stomach-that is a first.
She then proceeds to prescribe Zippy a lower dose of the SAME pills for twice a day-and a different face wash (that does not burn like the other one did according to Zippy)
I say to DH -"Zippy cannot remember to take pills once a day -did she NOT hear you"?
DH says-Dr. says Zip is a good candidate for Accutane.
Of course DH will not follow up or follow through with this regime and Zippy will not comply and it will be interesting when he goes back to the apparently deaf dermatologist with NO results.
Zippy shooting himself in the foot once again....sigh

Do you guys eat dinner together? Can you distribute a pill to him at breakfast and one at dinner? Tell him if he's going to act like a child, you'll watch over & treat him like a child. My SS15 1/2 wouldn't brush his teeth. We'd make him go brush his teeth while we watched until ge got the message. DH could do the same on the face washing. If you're going to spend your time & money at the Dr's, don't let him slack off. I'm surprised the Dr. didn't give him a pill that would help coat his stomach if it makes him ill. Perhaps his excuse is that he has a fear of success so he does everything to sabatoge good results.
I have
Been looking for a way to follow up and follow through that would be easy for DH to do-I like your ideas as we do have dinner together about 3X per week and we do see him every morning-Zippy does not do breakfast but has a cup of tea so that would be a good time to try to get a pill down him.
I have also wondered why Zippy shoots himself in the foot all the time. He is the type of person that "observes" before he acts-
I put it down to DH pandering constantly to Zip and Zippy's fierce stubborness-but Zippy is not really stupid....(just acting that way for now!)

accutane
I took Accutane back when I was in my late teens...it worked GREAT and cleared up all my acne (I had VERY bad stubborn acne..that normal cleansers wouldn't work with)..I have not had an outbreak since...the only thing with Accutane at that time was women had to sign a consent form that they would not get pregnant within a year of treatment as the baby could have serious disabilities (but I don't think we're worried about that in this case - LOL!)

What's with him not caring? Most teens I know are so

embarrased by acne, they'd walk the globe to get rid of it.
As stated
To agree with Crayon
" I fear not until Zippy establishes a relationship outside of DH will he worry about his appearance; DH unconditionally accepts him the way he is, laziness, acne and all"!
There may be some fear of some sort as well-he is an odd young man-he does not really care what the world thinks of him-and sometimes that is good thing in the right circumstances....

Sometimes at that age, it
Sometimes at that age, it takes an outside influence to care about THEM before they take care of themselves. Heck, somethimes it's hard to get them to pay attention to personal hygeine until their interests involve the opposite sex. Or, they could have low self esteem issues and just don't care??
