Praise the Lord and pass the ammuntion!!!
It's only 149 days or 21 weeks and 2 days until my last skid turns 18!!!!
If you want to calculate how many more days until your skids turn 18, here's the link.

I'm planning a GINORMOUS party for June and I would love to share it with all of you. I'm thinking maybe spend about $1200? hahahaha. I'm wondering, what could "we" waste 1200 a month doing??? Hmmmmmm. I might buy that cotton candy machine I've always wanted!! I'm definately going somewhere tropical. OMG...we'll actually be able to take ds9 to Disneyworld! The possibilities are endless.
Tell me, what would YOU do with $1200 extra a month??
(shout out to BMs marijuana supplier...you may have to find another source of income, we're done with our charity!)

We finally learned out to cut
We finally learned out to cut off sd21...and now we are using it on the rest of his skids!!!
I don't know, but we will be
I don't know, but we will be celebrating in a few years also! I am in Florida, so it's 18, or until they graduate, but no later than 19! it will be $920.00 for us, and DH and I are already planning a trip to Italy. he has already completely cut SS20 off, so I am optimistic.
I am SOOO thankful 'we' don't
I am SOOO thankful 'we' don't pay CS. Sorry, not intending to run it in - we don't 'cause SD18 has lived w/ us full time since she was 12. Her BM is a complete wack job!! Didn't make sure her own kid did homework, or even went to school, or even got to eat sometimes! We took her to court to get full custody & I told my hubby, I don't want a F'ing dime from that b*$ch in support (she's broke anyway, filed for bankruptcy last year, including 'supposed' college fund) I think that's the only reason that she didn't fight for custody is because we didn't ask for any CS - probably never would have ever gotten anything any way, you know - the 'can't get blood out of a turnip' saying ......
Anyway - congrats dd - definately do something for you (or you & your hubby if you feel it's warranted) You've EARNED it!!
My DH did the same thing when
My DH did the same thing when he divorced The Evil One 11 years ago. He told her..."let me keep the kids, don't touch my retirment fund and I won't ask for CS". She agreed. Of course, that means that she hasn't been finanically responsible for the two kids in all these years, but it hasn't stopped her from thinking she should get to claim them on her taxes every few years. (one would think the IRS would stop paying her and doing a little investigation FIRST, instead of having to go to her to get their money back!)
Awesome link! We have 182 for
Awesome link! We have 182 for SD and 642 for SS (unless he goes to college - which I think he should as he is VERY bright).
Woo hoo!!
BM is already on to her next gravy train... poor guy.
May 16, 2011 is my SO's
May 16, 2011 is my SO's emancipation day. Of course that beast will get her CS for May but, come June 1st, BM's gravy train is over. When his D turned 18, that beast still ended up with 3 months of free CS that she refused to give back. Of course SO didn't man up and take her cloven hooved skanky a$$ to court to get that money back, he just chalked it up to experience. This time around, he will be sending in a copy of his Divorce Decree in April to the payroll department so that BM is cut off June 1! I'm sure she will be expecting a few extra free months like last time and I'm sure sparks will fly from her porky a$$ when she doesn't. Oh to be a fly on that wall }:)
As an aside to this happy occasion. I have serious concerns about the happy day. This is a woman who didn't want her kids until it became apparent that in order to get SO's money and lose none of her own, she had to keep them. What happens when these kids become an expired commodity?? The S will have outlived his usefulness so he IS massively expendable. The D still receives SSI, Medicaid, and FS so her shelf life won't expire until all the goverment freebies do. (Which will never happen since she is dx'd w/ a PD.) Neither of these kids have been prepared for the real world. They have no chores, no responsibilities, no expectations (part of why her new hubby is trying to dump her a$$.) They are selfish, spoiled, entitled, and lazy. My biggest fear (and what I have nightmares about) is that at 18, his S will be ceremoniously kicked out and will expect to come and live with us. OMG!!!! I haven't even lived with SO. I can not start a life off with him AND his adult kid. It's not my job to teach this kid how to survive in this world. Heck, it won't even be OUR house, it will end up being this kids house. (Both kids have been catered too their entire lives.) I actually feel nauseous at the thought of this scenario. I can talk to SO until I am blue in the face about my fears and he can tell me whatever I want to hear since right now it is only a theoretical concept. I don't want to get sandbagged here. I guess my elation is shortlived with this sitting on pins and needles situation.
Sorry ddakan, I didn't mean to bring a dark cloud to your happy thread. Have you ever had these worries though??
You should spend your first 'CS free month' on a warm sandy beach somewhere far away from all the skid and BM drama. Then I would take 1/3 of the amount monthly (at least) and put it in to an IRA for the future. I mean you learned to live w/o it so far. Nothing wrong with building a nice nest egg for your golden years. JMO.
Oh, don't worry, I appreciate
Oh, don't worry, I appreciate your post. I always like hearing what everyone says. We have to be aware of every possible outcome so we can anticipate it and plan for it!!
Fortunately, my ss17 claims to hate me and he has cried wolf so long that DH won't even let him come to the house for a visit. I busted my ass to help ss17 with his endless bullshit medical problems, high school, court and he walked out of the house and never came back. He begged to come back after BM kicked him out the 3rd time and DH said, NO, IM NOT GOING TO LISTEN TO YOU BITCH ABOUT DDAKAN!
SS20 still lives with BM and he is her favorite, probably because he is a lot like DH (whom she still wants to be with). So that happy couple is set. I bought a truck for him in my name with my 2000 from my savings and 4000 from our bill paying money...and the skid is paying it back, so he is being a good boy. He is the most pleasant of the skids, I don't know how he stands living with BM, he just tunes her out I suppose.
SD21 was basically mine for 4 years and I helped her get set up independently and she knows she ain't coming back!!! She can live in her car first!! She's mouthy and we can't stand it. She made her choices. I busted my ass for this kid too!
I don't worry about them coming back because DH is FRIKIN tired of all of their whining and money sucking. I'm kinda lucky there and DH KNOWS I don't want them here in our happy home, so he wouldn't ask again. He suggests that we change our phone numbers and address when they turn 18 LOL!
My kids aren't losers, they are in college and don't want to live at home, so we're set there. We just have ds9 and we are taking him to disneyworld in May. The skids are going to love that. We could never afford a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of....for 10 fucking years!
Now we are going to have some fun!! If I were in your shoes, I would make it very clear NOW how you plan to deal with skids and they can either go to college or get a job, but they AINT LIVING WITH YOU!! Stand your ground on it, because guilty daddy will be all reaking with pity when it happens! We inherited SD because BM lost the SSI she was getting for her. She turned the age, and she was kicked out and we had to take her.
As the clock ticks, the time is getting shorter....I can feel it!!!! Somebody pinch me!!
Charles Schwaab, Morgan
Charles Schwaab, Morgan Stanly, etc....
But, have some fun too. Tahiti, Disney for your DS, etc....
Be ready for the "Daaaaaaad, I need....." calls from the Skids though.
And of course BMs drug dealer may knock on your door for some charitable contributions to cover his declining revenue.
Congrats.
Best regards,
Rags! LOL. How did you know
Rags! LOL. How did you know we have absolutely ZERO money in the 401K!!
I am graduating in Aug with my bachelor's degree and intend to work to do a LOT of catching up. This is actually my biggest goal in going to work. We've talked about just putting the money in our savings at first until we can have it sent to the 401K.
I think this is the best solution because we've lived without it all this time, we won't miss it and we'll need it later.
Umm, when ss17 lived here, I was constantly afraid his drug dealer was going to come to our house and get our 52 inch flat screen and laptops. DH said....you are being ridiculous!! I was like really DH, really?? (I was scared because we cut off the cash flow and ss17 was getting free weed from "somewhere").
I need to prepare my excuses...here's the one I used the other night...NO, IM NOT BAILING SD21 OUT OF JAIL. I TOLD HER TO PAY HER TICKETS AND SHE DIDN'T DO IT! Haha, actually sd21 told them not to call me because I would say no....this is progress! It took me many years to cut her off! Boyfriend is learning that sd21 is a bit of a pain in the ass... He had to sell his "Z" to cover his ass. Oh well, I tried to tell him....
dd, I am big on maxing 401Ks
dd,
I am big on maxing 401Ks or at least putting in the amount that generates maximum matching by your employer. Employer matching is the best and most guaranteed way to make a profit on your investments. IMHO.
I saw an article recently that indicated that if you have $20K in diversified and well managed investments my the time you are 26 that it will be worth more than $1Mil by the time you are 65 if you never add another dime. I for sure did not meet that goal at 26 but we did have it by the time my wife turned 26. We have always tried to max my 401K and my wife’s though we have dipped lower to cover other financial obligations periodically.
If you and DH qualify I would recommend putting $1200/mo windfall in to maxing a Roth IRA. That way your profits over the years are tax free. But, call a financial advisor and a CPA rather than listening to me.
In my opinion it is all about dollar cost averaging. If you invest a consistent amount of money in the market over time your investment will always be worth more than you invested and you will have significant growth.
Congrats on finishing your degree. That is a major and commendable accomplishment. I am sure you have seen the studies indicating that people with a 4yr degree earn more than $1mil more in their lifetime than those who do not.
Good luck in your career.
Best regards,
mommybear!!! have you
mommybear!!! have you considered going to school online? i'm about to get my bachelor's degree. i had an associate's in 1987.. then 2 years ago i started working on b.a. and i'll be finished 8/8/11! message me if you like and i'll tell you how i go online.
Congratulations on starting
Congratulations on starting back to school to finish your degree. I did my MBA on-line and it was an extremely powerful education experience.
On-line is very convenient if your program is in an asynchronous format. However, on-line was far more work than any other degree format that I have experienced.
My first two classes took me about ~40hrs a week per class to do all of the work. I only took one class every 6wks. That is not a sustainable work load for a long term effort. Once I learned how to work effectively on the course work I got it down to ~15hrs a week.
The key for me was the Bold Print Method. I read each chapter of assigned reading using the Bold Print Method. That means read the Intro, all bold print on each page including published side notes, then read the chapter review/summary. As you work through the assigned discussion questions on the reading material you will go back through the chapter to harvest any additional information needed to answer the questions that are assigned from the end of the chapter.
Good luck on your degree and hang in there. It goes fast once you get rolling.
Best regards,
LOL StayinSane!!!
LOL StayinSane!!! ROFLMAO!!!!!
Not to burst your bubble of your fabulous idea, but I've heard of this being done before!!!
Love it Love it Love it Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you - you just gave me something to smile amount!!!
Bad Milomom, bad... }:) }:) }:)
P.S. I would add a little something else to that package with the last CS $$ payment. Hmmm.....like maybe a stack of JOB APPLICATIONS to the local fast food places, etc...with a little note that says "Good luck having to actually EARN an income and know what it's like to have to WORK HARD to earn a living and support YOURSELF from now on!!" LOL!!!
