Well here's a doosy for ya....
So not sure what the correct course of action here is.... Custody orders say each parent responsible for 50% of medical costs not covered by insurance. Child got braces & at the time one parent had insurance that was going to cover a certain amount and mom & dad agreed to split the other portion... Well fast forward to one year down the road and half way through braces, each parent has paid off the agreed original amount... Parent with dental insurance changes job and dental insurances cancels... That parent didn't bother to tell the other parent & dental insurance wasn't done paying their original portion... Who owes the remaining balance that insurance won't pay?

I think so too, its going to
I think so too, its going to start an argument I know... And get this, the parent without the insurance several times a few months before the cancellation happened told the other parent to make sure not to cancel the dental while they were in the process of changing who carried medical BC the bill statements coming in the mail were showing only quarterly insurance payments. Then the job change & cancellation 3 months later. It's not a small bill either... grrr...
Um, check the laws/statutes
Um, check the laws/statutes in your state.
In my state, "medical" is anything that a medical policy would pay. Such as Humana, Blue Cross Blue Shield etc. Dental and vision are covered under different insurance policies and are mentioned separately in our co.
Literally it reads: parents will equally split the costs of all medical, dental, orthodontic and vision needs of the dependent children.
Five years ago, when DH originally got screwed by his CO, he had the kids 50% of the time, was still paying BM a grand a month and was responsible according to the CO for 70% of uncovered medical. She had braces put on now SD19 (who did not need them... if you look at before and after pictures they look identical) DH refused to pay, BM took him to court and the judge agreed with DH, he was not found liable for any dental, orthodontic or vision needs as far as reimbursement for any expenses.
And DH was the one providing all the insurance on everyone for everything, BM could have put the kids on her policies for free... and refused. She ended up having to pay all the uncovered expenses for dental vision and braces until they went back to mediation.
