Nearly fell over twice last night. Fleeting moments of maturity from BS and DH.
DH and BS went out before I got home and got me the cutest little terrarium as a replacement Mother's Day present for the infected outdoor perennial they grabbed at the last second as the original gift. They both apologized for not planning ahead and putting so little effort in the first time. Plus they even bought my favorite cake. I wasn't expecting it at all. I had taken all of the advice from you about not paying any attention to stuff like that and not putting so much effort into all of them. Now, I was very touched but I'm also not stupid. I'm not assuming this means things have changed at all. All this means is they at least acknowledged they were schmucks.
The other thing that was a glimmer was that BS was doing lots of extra work on his assignments last night. I was fearful his grades are slipping and he's trying a mad rush at the end to keep them up. I asked why he was doing so much more than the assignments called for. I could not believe the response (from the kid who rarely has anything positive to say about school despite getting decent grades): I really like these assignments so I want to do this much extra work, I'm enjoying it. (Now if I can just get him that enthused about chores.)

That's a good lesson for DS
That's a good lesson for DS to apologize and make amends. Very nice!
