OT: Is anyone near this shooting?

stormabruin's picture

Is anyone near where this happened? I've heard about so many tragic deaths recently & don't understand why.
A man jumped from a bridge over the interstate into rush-hour traffic here yesterday morning just up from where I work. He was hit by 4 cars.

It's so depressing & sad.

WTF is wrong with these people???!!! Please do us all a favor and if you want to shoot someone start with your fucking self!!!! This has me so very upset!! I am beside myself with grief for the parents of these children!! I can very much relate to this kind of terror. My own children were kidnapped by their biodad several years ago. He is mentally unstable and it was shortly after our divorce was final. The reason we divorced was do to his unwillingness to identify that he had a mental illness (bipoloar/schizo) and take meds to help himself. During the year it took to get divorced (he kept contesting it saying I had no grounds) he stalked me, harrassed me and showed up in the middle of the night with a gun trying to gain access into MY house! The judge still granted him "supervised" visits. Supervised by his parents. Not the most reliable human beings I assure you. One night on an overnight visit, he took off with them! The police didn't catch him until he made it to the Canadian border! And he was armed! My fear the entire 24 hours that this happened was that out of spite he had killed my children! I hate him. I hope he dies. Instead he gets to live off the taxpayer dime in a mental institution when in all actuality it would be better if he would just off himself. Sorry about this rant. I've been carrying this load a long time. It's a lot to stuff down all the time. My thoughts and prayers are with these people.

It's hard to understand someone feeling like their only way out is by taking their life, but yes...if you need to take a life, take your own. I don't get the motive behind walking into a school full of children you've never met & just shooting. I can't imagine they believe it can end well.

At one of my old jobs I worked in downtown Minnepolis. A guy jumped from one of the top floors, but at least had the courtesy to have people on the ground making sure pedestrians weren't in danger when he dropped. The jumper we had yesterday didn't have that courtesy. 4 cars hit him! How many other lives could he have taken with his own???

It's just sad that people fall into such an awful state of mind. Especially around the holidays that are intended to bring joy & happiness. :?

Been keeping up with the news on this one online. SO very sad that they've confirmed children are among the victims.

I got the alert on my phone about another school shooting this morning. My first thought was "next thing you know this crap is going to be happening in Elementary schools"... then I got to work on logged in and sure enough, it was an Elementary school. **SMHD**

It is heartbreaking. I sat at my desk and cried looking at the image of the kids being led out of the school, one little girl just crying in terror. All I could think is, that could be MY little girl. We send them off to school, trusting that they will be home safe in our arms at 1:50 in the afternoon.

I can't wrap my mind around this. I don't understand.

Was just telling my husband that no one is safe anywhere anymore. Not in a mall, a school (even elementary now), a movie theater (the Aurora CO movie shooting was less than an hour away from our place, Columbine is the next town over from us).

Just sad. So very sad.

18 kids killed. KIDS... Elementary age. Innocent little tiny lives.

I can't stop crying. This is disgusting.

The first thing I thought was why can't these people just shoot themselves instead of taking innocent people and kids with them. Why bring others into their miserary? So they are miserable and so what? That doesn't mean they should kill others. Geez! It just pissed me off to no end that these people want so much attention or what ever the bell that they have to kill people they don't even know or people they do and kids.

Again so you are miserable and so? Fix yourself or off yourself but why kill others?

We just had a shooting in a mall here in Oregon the other day. Two victims dead, one critically injured. Shooter shot himself.

I still can't figure out what's wrong with this world any more.

princessmofo's picture

Perhaps I am shell shocked but I have a good mind to just pick my son up early from school today. Don't know why. But these nutjobs always "inspire" other nutjobs to copycat. It terrifies me. :?

BSgoinon's picture

NO, I just told BM the same thing. I want to go get all of them and wrap my arms around them all day.

And for the shooter to be a FATHER of one of those kids???

My DH is constantly concerned about me working in a school. I keep telling him that they have really strong security here. It's just horrible that people would even CONTEMPLATE doing something so horrendous.

stormabruin's picture

I just now heard them say the gunman was 20-years old but nothing about his tie to the school. What a monster!

stormabruin's picture

I don't know. I saw video of them looking but wasn't sure if they'd determined he was the only one or not.

BSgoinon's picture

I feel like I am going to throw up. Those poor little babies. Those poor parents.

stormabruin's picture

Now I'm hearing they do have a second one in custody & they're trying to determine whether he was part of it. I think the police are supposed to do a live news conference at 1:30pm.

BSgoinon's picture

Thank you. I went in to the office next door and watched the TV in their lobby. I am sickened by all of this.

Shaman29's picture

I just read another news report and I just want to throw up.

All of those innocent kids and adults. I am heart-broken for their loved ones. I just want to cry.

stormabruin's picture

They're hearing reports that he focused on a Kindergarten classroom. If he was 20 & the father of a child there, it sounds like it could've been his child's classroom. :?

DaizyDuke's picture

I am just sick and can't wait to get home to my BS3. Why does this keep happening? Why do people keep taking the lives of innocents?? Why does this seem to happen only in the U.S.?? Does this happen in other countries and we just don't hear about it??

I can't even imagine what the parents and families are going through right now, much less what the responders on the scene had to witness and remember for the rest of their lives. God help them all.

imjustthemaid's picture

This is so sad I can't even watch the news anymore. I'm in Massachusetts but its still too close for me. My bd4 is starting kindergarten in sept. I feel so bad for the families of those poor kids!! And right before Christmas too!! It makes me sick to my stomach and brought me to tears!! What kind of world do we live in that your own children are not even safe at school and you can't go to a mall!!

stormabruin's picture

I imagine most of these parents have already done a lot of their Christmas shopping. Now they're housing gifts they'll never get to give their children.

I can't imagine the heartbreak of losing a child, & the Christmas season will likely serve as a reminder for them every year from now on.

Yes, that is him. Lived in Hoboke, same as being stated in the news.

Also, look at the picture and his friend's comment on 9 DEC...the ahole must have planned this well...and his friend must have thought he was a bit off...but probably had no clue he was really crazy.

stormabruin's picture

"Look like you're about to buy an Ale, but then paint a picture of it... very mixed... all good, though. Kinda like if Solid Snake was wearing a Neo trenchcoat. This can only turn out awesome."

stormabruin's picture

This girl^^^"liked" the comment on his page, but is acting like she doesn't know who he is (on her page). She's freaking about people she doesn't know posting comments on her page. If it were me, the first thing I'd do is change my privacy settings so people couldn't see my profile. She hasn't changed anything.

stormabruin's picture

It's gone. His profile doesn't come up anymore. Maybe FB removed it or the police did something with it.

BSgoinon's picture

HE deleted it. That guy isn't the shooter. There is a picture of his FB page before he deleted it with him saying "it wasn't me, I was at work". If you google RLanza, there is a retraction from the website that posted saying it was him.

BSgoinon's picture

Now I am reading that they are not identifying the shooter as Ryan Lanza at all. :? I'm confused.

BSgoinon's picture

That's not the shooter... LOL. Wrong Ryan Lanza... this guy is on a bus on his way home from work.

GoldenGoose's picture

I live in the next town over from the shooting: 10 miles away. It'sbeen absolutely devastating, as you can imagine. My kids are home safe and I practically mauled my kids as I walked in the door, this afternoon. My youngest 's school was on lockdown, which has left her traumatized because like the bits of misinformation that were released by the media, the kids were hearing only pieces. Not sure if I am making sense...
