SD14 can see BM's ignorance (funny)
So, SD14 is in marching band. They're performing this weekend, and one of the songs is Lady Gaga's Poker Face.
Apparently BM has been telling anybody who listens about DH - he's a hardcore Army Ranger who is into death metal, easily angered, intolerant, etc. We've seen evidence of this when SD14 will tell me about things BM has said about us, and insisted that I not tell DH because "Dad might get mad!" or when talking about a future boyfriend being disrespectful - "Dad would get mad and beat him up, huh?"
SD14 was talking to her band instructor, gushing about their upcoming program. "Oh yeah, my dad loves Lady Gaga, he'd think this is great!" The band instructor says, "I thought he was into death metal..." obviously puzzled. SD14 says, "Well yeah, he likes that stuff too, don't listen to Mom, she doesn't know what she's talking about."
While DH was telling me this, I was thinking to myself - all these years, and BM still lives in LaLa Land when it comes to DH - but when he got to the last line, I sputtered. I can't believe that SD14 would even say that to another adult. I suspect as she gets older, she and BM will lock horns more and more often. We may end up getting custody if it gets too bad. As it is, SD14 has long since learned to look at BM with a skeptical eye. And that's without hardly any visitation/influence from us. There's hope, ladies!
In other news, BM pitched a "woe is me, everybody I love is dying!" because her 80-something-yr-old grandmother and her HS boyfriend died this last week - she dumped the entire household (including feeding, caring for, and getting SD14's 6-yr-old brother to school) on SD14 for the week. BM is still unemployed. There hasn't been a hint of increasing CS. We're still waiting for the shoe to drop.

I would give very good odds that SD14 was not being intentionally disrespectful to BM. She has a tendency to bubble, gush, chatter, and talk your ear off. (Sometimes she's exhausting just to listen to) This often leads to foot-in-mouth syndrome. Which is why, had I heard the story, I would have said something about respecting her mother to other adults.
Or, it could be a learned behavior, because I have the impression that BM tells SD14 and other people (in front of the girl) that SD14 doesn't know what she's talking about All The Time. Hmmm... another learning point topic of conversation for Xmas.
BM's high school boyfriend
BM's high school boyfriend died? As in...one she dated back in high school or she was just currently dating a guy who is IN high school!??? Even though it's sad to talk about someone dying that part made me back track.......
I think it's quite interesting when kids start to realize their parent's flaws -- and it could happen to any parent. SD5 already says stuff about her mom ("She has too many boyfriends, she needs help." or "I don't know why she has me wear clothes to your house that she wants to make sure she gets back right away, she just shouldn't have me wear them anyway!") We bite our tongues but it's pretty funny!
