Snowstorm and pick up ...Beaver style..Updated....DH made it home

Ah..for those of here in the midwest...we were treated to 36 hours of, rain, then freezing rain, sleet, then full snow.  Yep we tried to fit all 4 seasons into 48 hours here..its fun.

So yesterday and this morning it has been really crappy outside and most places were closed..including schools.  Que up the round of cheers from school children far and wide, including SD.

Oh joy...since today is transition day for SD from Beaver's Den to our house.  Normally, Beaver drops off SD before school to our house since 1.  Beaver has to be to work before SD starts school (she attends school in our district) and 2.  Beaver works about 2 miles from our house.  It works...and Dh doesn't have to enter the Beaver territory to get SD.

DH, knowing it was crappy outside and would be for the next 12 to 18 hours sent a message to Beaver last night around 9:30 p.m. asking if she would be dropping off SD before work in the morning.  Beaver sends back...She will know when she knows.  If she is going into work she will drop her off and she will let him know in the morning.

MMMkkk...well knowing Beaver, that translates into...no way in h3ll she will be dropping off so DH just plans to drive over and pick up SD.  We get up around 6 a.m. to go out shovel the driveway and still no message from Beaver.  Wait for our shocked faces....so we commence operation pick up SD and I start to clear the driveway.  DH in the meantime starts to get ready to head out and low and behold about the time Beaver normally drops off SD...she sends a text message she isn't coming and what time is DH picking up SD.  Reaaaalllly Beaver ya don't say...your not coming SHOCKER...NOT.

It is now 6:35 a.m.  (this is important). DH sends back..ok he will be leaving shortly to head to her house to pick up SD.  Beaver's response...."Well I thought your pickup time was 8 a.m."  The steam that came from DH over this could have melted the snow for a 4 block radius.  To get to the Beaver layer across town can take 30 to 45 minutes during normal rush hour traffic...let alone when it is a snowpocolypse out.  It will probably close to 8 by the time he get there. DH at this has run out of f*cks..and responded.

I am leaving in a few minutes..and it will take me longer to get there due to the snow.  Either have SD ready or you can drop her off PICK ONE.    Beaver still tried to double down on this..and sent back.."Well it is an 8 am.. pick up time"  DH...I WILL PICK UP SD WHEN I GET THERE OR I WILL SEE YOU AND SD AT MY HOUSE AT 8.  (it was in caps he was pissed.)

Now we have a brand new all wheel drive big SUV...so we weren't too worried about the snow...the ice on the other hand...nothing is gonna be good in that but not much ya can do  We also park our cars in the garage now..so no scrapping required...and once the drive was almost clear DH took off....he left around 6:45 a.m.  Roads were bad and most weren't plowed...so it took him a about an hour to get to Beaver's to get SD...what time it was when he got there....7:45 a.m.  Yes people that 15 minutes he got SD early will make ALLLLL the difference and Beaver is missing those valuable 15 minutes of parenting time.  DH sent me a text when he got there and is now on his way home.

What we think happened here..Beaver waited till the last minute to call off work (she works in a hospital and they never close) and wanted to keep SD there.  She thought if she waited till the last minute DH wouldn't drive over and get SD till the afternoon. due to the snow and work  However, what she didn't bank on was DH knowing she would play games and planned ahead by getting up early to shovel and moving his meetings around so he didn't have work till later today.  She also forgets we have an big SUV since DH normally always drives our sedan.  (the big rig is for ME).  We also think she probably tried to file her taxes and couldn't claim SD...so she is being extra Beaverish...

So cheers folks.......and a not so happy snow day to those of us stuck in this winter storm belt.  Is it too early in the day to add bourbon to my coffee??

UPDATE - DH made it home ..took him 50 minutes to get back. SD rolled in with her pj's and comfy on..good thing they didn't get stuck somewhere she would have froze.  (Not really I have blankets and stuff in my snow bag in the back...I grew up in the Windy City..and DH grew up in upstate NY...we both lived through blizzards, etc).  SD went immediately back to bed....so yep all Beaver missed was SD sleeping....what a loss.

How idiotic can this woman be?? How about just a thank you for coming to get her! Good lord, it's like a small act of understanding would kill so many of these women!

We are getting into a sort of routine now that Toxic Troll has been working a steady job.

She now actually picks up Sd15.5 B/M from school.

Beaver. Just stop with the games already.

To me this story just showcases how annoying divorced people are when it comes to pick ups/ drop offs!!! To me both of them cared more about the trade off and the timing then the bigger issue that maybe everyone should have stayed where they were until the weather got better! God forbid they think of the safety of their child first!! DH and BM are like this. God forbid DH loses even 5 minutes of "his time" with SD and God forbid BM is stuck with SD for 5 minutes longer!!!

unfortunately since he works from home all of the time...he doesn't get a snow day.  He moved his morning meetings to later which pushed back his afternoon meetings.  He is able to do this since a lot of his meetings are on the west coast (three hour time difference).  However he can't move his over seas meetings since they are 5 to 6 hours ahead of us. So that meant either went at got SD at that time or it would have been 8 p.m. before he could get her since his last meeting was with a west coast client at 4 p.m. west cost time which would be 7 p.m. his time  That client happens to be a $20M account so he can't just simply move and/or cancel it.  So...the morning was the only time he had to get SD.

During the summer when there is no school and DH has to get SD...since Beaver won't drive the extra 2 minutes to drop her off ..DH clears his calendar well in advance on those Friday's. This, however, was very last minute....so yea.he did what he could.

If DH thought it was too bad he wouldn't have gone at all..but since we both grew up and learned to drive in snow that was measured in feet and not inches on regular basis...he felt reasonably sure he would be ok.
