OT- an observation while working from home

ITB2012's picture

I can hear DH while we are working. I don't listen but he's background noise and my brain notices and logs it. This morning my brain must have gotten enough data points because DH was on a call and my brain asked: have you noticed how he more easily complains about a woman's behavior than a man's, like in this current call?

I said no I hadn't and I asked my brain to defend its statement and it came up with a number of examples, and helpfully compared it to personal situations and his attitude.

While I agree with my brain and we will file that away as a "thing to consider" when dealing with DH, we both agreed that any extra thinking should be focused on something more fun like plots for a new Deadpool movie.

Our whole society suffers from this misogyny.

I've started calling it out, every time I hear it.

Same with racism, etc.

My DH, while a card carrying feminist, still holds some biases. We all do. When I recognize that his behavior comes from bias or stereotype, I call him out on it. He is receptive to my observations, occasionally examines the genesis of his belief, and now and then changes his behavior. He wants to be a better human, and he's already a good one.  Love that man.

His mom. After she said exactly the same phrase about someone that I've heard him say, it seems she's helped perpetuate the misogyny.

I called them both out on it. They had no idea they really weee verbalizing and therefore reinforcing their bias.
