What do you think Cookies?
The three of us are eating dinner last night and somehow SS17's final grades came up for school. Now, I know BM2 has been blowing rainbows and sunshine up his bum about it. It's all "I'm so proud, you've done fantastic, well done...blah blah blah"
He didn't pass one damn thing.
Soooooooooo last night, I can't remember what we were talking about but SS says to me "What exactly do you think about my scores, Cookies?" Well, I don't do smoking sunshine up the arse...I actually LIVED it. So my reply was "well, I'm proud of the effort you put into school for the last six months. But honestly that's only because I had to take all your electronics away and force you to study. For the last six years, you haven't wanted to do any homework or studying. It's been a constant battle since Year 5 with and it has driven me mad. I do have to wonder if your results would've been higher had you not missed hundreds of homework assignments, reports and other papers."
SS17 is just kinda staring at his plate, not saying a word.
I said "I'm not going through this stuff again. I expect you to work hard and study and get better grades now. You're older and need to take responsibility."
DH did agree but then we started talking about other things. SS didn't say a word. Yeah kiddo I'm not sugar coating it - school was always a nightmare and your final grades were abysmal. BM2, as usual, as no idea what really happened or what a nightmare it was.

That's the problem when you
That's the problem when you keep telling a child they are amazing all the time for failing in everything, they can't wrap their head around reality.
Yep! Plus they'll never
Yep! Plus they'll never learn to be responsible for their actions. I'm not having it.
yeah the overpraise movement
blows. "Goooooood joooooobbbbb Buuuuudddddyyyyyy!!!" for things like breathing.
It all becomes white noise and loses all meaning just like the boy who cried wolf.

Barely graduated high school, only works barely parttime, doesnt have her license to drive, yet is angry no one will give her a car.
Pathetic.
How will these kids ever learn to do for themselves? Oh, thats right - they wont. They will just mooch, er, live with the 'rents till they can inherit. Im in a weird mood today.
It's true though. He might
It's true though. He might not like hearing it but I certainly didn't like living it. He'll never learn if everyone keeps celebrating mediocrity.
