In this moment, skid, I love you.

I had a skid-love moment last night.

SD is bratty, very cute, easy to like, easy to dislike. Pretty typical spoiled, cute girl.

SS, on the other hand... he is quirky. The little underdog. BM favors SD. SS looks a lot like DH. He is an anxious kid, always gnawing on his nails (reminds me of myself as a kid). Total hypochondriac... before bed he always feels his heart flutter or his head hurts or he can't breathe. He is super smart and always extremely loving.

Anyway, yesterday they met the new pup. SS came to me and said, I like him but I do not want Lady (other dog) to feel replaced, so we really must still cuddle her and treat her the same. He sat there afterward with lady looking somber. It really touched me because I have been having severe mom-guilt that the new puppy is cramping my sweet girl's style.

I just felt a lot of overwhelming love for SS in that moment. He has a big heart and he loves my animals. He is a good boy.

SD immediately forgot Lady and was smitten with the shiny, new dog. In a week she won't care about either.

In closing, I love my dear step son, deeply and genuinely, while simultaneously resenting his presence. If that isn't a self imposed mind fuck, I don't know what is.

how very sweet!!! lurch and kaos responded just like your skids when we brought home dog#2. lurch loves up on grandpa all the time, kaos only the occasional hug or 5-second petting. since the new has worn off dog#2, he only uses him to piss off dh several times a week.

and dont feel guilty furmomma! i've spent most my life living with multiple furry ones - there's always room to love them all!!!!!

I have always owned dog but only one at a time. I cried today because the puppy plays rough with Lady and she has very sensitive skin (white fur) and you can see all of the red marks.

I try to remind myself in a few months the adjustment will be over. Sad

Ok that is great news. May I ask the sex and breed of each? I have a 2 y/o english bulldog mix who is female and a male doberman pup. Could not be any more opposite in terms of body shape.

LOL "neurotic little weirdo." No cats for me, I am a dog lover to the extreme. If I could make a career of just saving dogs, I would.

ajanie - lady will teach the pup what she will and wont tolerate. grandpa has snapped at dog#2 whenever he gets too rough. either that, or teach pup "EAAASYYY" - get pup's attention w/ a touch and say that, every.single.time he plays rough.

it's a good sign that they do play together. they'll get there quicker than you know it.
