But I'll Ruin My Perfect Attendance Award

step off already's picture

SS13 is sick today. DH is having him stay home. The only thing SS has to say is that it'll ruin his perfect attendance award.

I wrote a blog about this last year where BM was encouraging him to get the perfect attendance award because she got that when she was in school.

DH responded, "how about you focus on getting better grades, not just showing up. There's more to life than showing up, it's what you do when you get there that matters. Now get up in your room and go to sleep or read a book!"

Score for DH.

We had a kid in my school district a couple of years back that graduated from High School with perfect attendance... like his whole school career! He got some type of Presidential award for it. He was a good student too though. I agree with your DH... no point in showing up every day if you're not going to put forth the effort.

My BD is the opposite. She tries to stay home if she has cramps! I give her a midol and send her on her way

At least he WANTS to go? SS14 would never go to school, I'm afraid, if we didn't make him. He'd rather be stupid than put forth any effort to actually learn something.
