OT - Day 5 of Juice Cleanse saga.......rise of the dizzy spells

Shaman29's picture

Well crap. Double crap.

Started experiencing dizzy spells yesterday afternoon (okay, technically I've been having them since Sunday). Blew them off at first as low blood sugar and powered through. But after experiencing multiple spells last night, decided to tell DH. He encouraged me to eat a little protein, so I added some hemp protein to my juice last night (by the way, it was only slightly less repulsive than the beet/sweet potato/carrot/apple juice).

Afterwards, felt even worse (sick, dizzy, bloated) and blamed the hemp powder.

Until this morning. I nearly fell in the shower after another dizzy spell (not my shining hour). Then had another on the way to work (DH was wondering why I was white knuckling it when he was only doing 20mph on a residential street). That's when DH said "Okay....that's it. I'm dropping you off at the cafe across from your office. You need to eat some protein. Get a side of eggs with some spinach and eat that with the rest of your morning juice. You're done. Your health issues are not improving from this but getting worse. We have stairs at home and you have stairs at work. What happens if you faint and fall down?"

So we worked it out to where I'll have some lean protein at breakfast and lunch, eat veggies, continue to drink my juices (in smaller portions) throughout the day and have juice for dinner. I'll stay off Teeccino (my fake coffee) and no alcohol until DH is done with his cleanse on the 13th.

I didn't take my thyroid and adrenal issues into consideration when I started the cleanse. Well, that's not true, I thought it would help both conditions if I didn't have any animal based proteins or grains for a few weeks. I didn't take into account your thyroid and adrenals play a role in regulating your insulin and by eliminating healthy fats and proteins I was doing some serious damage to my body. I also failed to remember that I experienced dizzy spells and severe blood sugar fluctuation on overly restrictive eating plans in the past.

So I will continue, sort of, on this venture but with small amounts of healthy protein and veggies to make sure I don't pitch face first into the street. Smile I am disappointed I didn't get through all 15 days but I made it through 4 of them. At least before my body made it all too obvious it won't support a long term cleanse.

I appreciate all of the support I received from the experienced juicers! I made it through four days and would have continued just out of my own stubbornness to finish what I start.

Thank you for your support on this! I did make it through 4 days, so I feel good about that.

I was speaking to someone at work this morning, who was at a meeting with me on Tuesday. I was having some dizzy spells during the meeting and trouble processing my answers to her questions. She asked if I was okay, and I explained I was on a juice fast and that I was a little slow. This morning she told me I looked a lot better and had color in my face, that I was extremely pale when she saw me on Tuesday.

She was glad I reintroduced some protein in my diet and told me I looked much better today.

I do plan on doing one day juice fasts (over the weekends) about once or twice a month going forward.

To continue supporting DH on his quest, I am only eating lean proteins and veggies. I'm still off of my fake coffee (teeccino), chocolate, booze and grains. And I'm juicing in the evenings (eating a little protein before bed) so I'm not cooking in the evenings.

Switch by adding a smoothie in the morning, fruit and silken soft tofu and fruit juice - it will give you the sugar and the protein - i also get dizzy with just veggie juices.

It's good to know it's just not me.

I will switch it up with almond milk and whey powder in my morning fruit smoothie. I'm having salads with a little protein at lunch. Juice at night with DH.

I have to limit soy products because they are bad for people with hypothyroidism.

I do enjoy the juices. Well, except the last one. Very bitter. I found out DH left the orange peel on the oranges and didn't remove the skin from the pineapple. He thought it would be the same as leaving the peels on apples or cucumbers. Ummmmmmm......no DH, it's not. Biggrin

Oh heck no......I'll basically eat anything doesn't doesn't get up and walk off my plate. I love most food, well except for lima beans, okra and durian fruit.

I am feeling a lot better now that I've had some protein.

I generally have a few eggs scrambled with spinach or a smoothie in the morning. Salad with a little protein at lunch. Occasionally I'll get this amazing tuna melt with a salad from this great diner near work, but that's only once in a while. Snacks are fruit, nuts, nut butter or juice smoothies. Dinner is lean protein and veggies. We usually have chicken or seafood at dinner times. Every once in a while we have pork or beef.

I do treat myself with very dark chocolate, the occasional glass of wine or cocktail. Or once in a while these amazing hand crafted ice cream sandwiches made locally. A woman in my city started a business while she was pregnant. She was craving ice cream sandwiches but they were all so nasty, so she made her own. They are amazing and when I really want to treat myself, we go buy ourselves a treat.
