anybody know anything about ear tubes?
Its been awhile. BM has been okay for a bit until now. FSS1 1/2 has had about 6 ear infections, that we know of, since birth. The most recent was this past week. BM emailed BF stating that the dr was talking about tubes if they continue. BF asked BM if baby was still on the bottle. BM replied, that sounds like an accusatory question but yes FSS has a bottle at sleep times and went on to describe that baby is in a upright postion and weaning has been hard for them both. All BF did was ask a simple question. FSS had been weaned at BF's for almost 3 months. BF told BM about baby being weaned here and she got all pissy and said that would have been nice to know almost 3 months ago. Weaning just sort of happened here. FSS did not like the bottles we gave him with just water in them so he was happy to have a cup of milk.
Does anyone have any experience with tubes at such a young age? My BD8's doc suggested tubes for her at about the same age but she had had over 20 not 6 like FSS. I did not get them and she grew out of them at about 2 years of age.

My son got ear infections
My son got ear infections every 6 weeks, starting at 6 weeks old, until they finally put tubes in at 3 yrs old. We had changed doctors a few times (military & being moved around) so it probably would've got done earlier if we had the same doctor. They fell out 1 1/2 years later & he hasn't had anymore since they first put them in. Usually they will put tubes in if they get more than 3 or 4 a year and it hasn't stopped by 2 - 2.5 yrs old.

My son had plenty of ear
My son had plenty of ear infections and unfortunately, ear tubes...Ear tubes DO work, HOWEVER, do some research on the internet and you will find that too many doctors are recommending these way too often...I believe they cause more harm than good, when there is normally some other solution...
I don't know your issue, but I will tell you that MILK, DAIRY is what caused 99% of my son's ear infections...however, the doctors CLAIMED they could not test for allergies until he was 3, so they put tubes in at around 1 1/2-2...amazingly enough, at 3 he was tested for allergies and he was allergic to MILK!!! Even before the operation for the tubes they'll tell you to NOT give them any milk for a few days before because it creates "fluid in the ears and congestion"...WELL, maybe THAT's what needs to be removed from the diet and the kid won't get any ear infections...
My son has never really gotten sick anymore after we took away cow's milk...amazing...
finally
Someone else who knows that cow's milk causes mucus which can lead to ear infections and such.
I was told many times by a good friend that milk makes mucus and other people did not believe me. How many little ones do you know who have carried around a bottle of milk with a super runny nose! My youngest was on soy formula cause she was allergic to milk and guess what no more ear infections!

Here's one article...
By the way, I remember one of my son's ear tubes took a very long time to fall out...I can honestly tell you that his "extremely sensitive" hearing on one ear today was probably caused by that. He never covered his ears as a baby before he got the tubes or when he did NOT have an ear infection...the covering of the ears, and actually just ONE ear, began after his ear tubes came out...and it's been over 4 years...When I ask him, he says it "hurts" his ear...not an infection, but loud noises truly make his ear hurt now...
Tubes
I had tubes put in my ears when I was 8. I had ear infections constantly and had severe hearing loss, to the point I was lip reading to communicate. I don't think having them that young is a big deal. Actually the younger the better, because then the damage will stop sooner.
The tubes aren't a big deal, and they really helped me. I don't think I've had more than 3 or 4 ear infections since then. You just have to make sure no water goes in there ears from showers, pools, ocean.

Adenoids
My son had constant ear infections due to fluid build-up behind his ears. His adenoids were huge and interfering with drainage. I was in Germany at the time and their doc's are of the opinion that tubes were useless, as more often then not, they just fall out. He had his adenoids removed and has never had another ear infection in 17 years. He was just 1 year old when he had this done.
