Step daughter with bad attitude

PlainJayne15's picture

I have a 17 year old stepdaughter who has lived with us for 8 years. She has always been difficult especially when she does not get her own way.
I am fabulous when I am giving her treats and money but when she is told no she behaves like a spoilt child having a tantrum Sad
Me and her Dad are united in our approach but it is not helpful when she runs to her mom who does not want to work with us but is happy in reinforcing her daughters negative behaviour :jawdrop:
When things are going well here, her mom does not see her!
We have tried every way to deal with this but when she goes a week without speaking to us and tries to make us feel bad for setting the boundaries it becomes tedious.
We have asked her if she is happy living with us and she says she is.
We are sick of the bad atmosphere in our Home which in eight years, this behaviour keeps repeating itself.
She came to live with us initially because her mom would not put up with her behaviour however, openly critiscises us to anyone who will listen.
My stepdaughter puts things over social networking sites and her friends all pander to the lies she tells about how hard done by she is.
I am at the stage now where I am tired of this and feel like giving up, please help

I feel your pain.

Biggrin Thanks for that it made me smile. I am searching the knife drawer so I can cut the atmosphere here!

Oh, heavens.. .teens. sigh...
I've survived 5. Mostly. Still have a few years to go with some. And have the scars to prove it.

My mom told me that God made babies cute so we wouldn't kill them when they became teens.

Will try and remember that the next time she flounces past me looking sideways like she has a bad smell under her nose :?
Oh, how different it was a few months ago when we were kitting her out for her school prom. Dress, shoes, nails, hair and fake tan! I felt like I was a runner on the set of a glamour shoot Smile

The alternative is that you don't make the excuse that she is just a teen. Stop dealing with her. If she is disrespecting you in public forums, why are you expected to take it?
