Insurance

DH is looking at getting a new job (better pay). He is CO to insure both SS's. My question is what happens if he takes a new job and doesn't have insurance available for 90days? Supposedly BM1 has medicade for SS13 (not sure how that works since DH has had him insured for the last 10yrs). A friend told me if he doesn't insure him the state can ask DH to pay back for medicade? has anyone heard of or dealt with this?

When we were between insurance coverage, we paid for a temporary policy for the skids. We chose one with a high deductible so it was cheap enough. DH let BM know this and asked that any non-emergency appointments be postponed.

Yeah, that wasn't so smart in hind sight. She had the skids in so much during that two month period, that she maxed out the $5000 deductible. Sad

It might depend on the state, but I have dealt with this bc my exh doesn't hold jobs very well. I get them on the state insurance (medicaid) for the time between. But I have learned that once they are on it, it's nearly impossible to get them off it. I'm not sure what that's about. Even when I call and tell them my kids have other insurance now, through Dad's work, they say they can stay on it until the renewal in 8 months.

The state I live in (Idaho) can and does require my fiance to reimburse for Medicaid. SD2 was born early and he was not married to BM at the time. BM is unemployed, lives off of government assistance, and naturally filed with Medicaid. Fiance did not have insurance coverage at the time as he was working for a private contractor. The state paid for the BM's half of the birth and NICU costs and then slapped the other half onto fiance's child support, which now shows up as more than $12k in delinquent CS on his credit. They garnish his wages and his tax refund. We are currently not able to purchase a home because of it. Definitely not something that you want.
