My step-mother poem

southernshellgirl's picture

With or without reading my post earlier today, I'd like to share this with everyone. I just finished it in January, but I have worked on it for some time. I hope you like it. Smile

I Am Her Stepmother

I am her stepmother,
And I am proud to be,
God has given me this important job,
And it is Him I aim to please.

I am her stepmother,
A promise to her I have made,
To guide her and protect her,
And to teach her in Gods ways.

I am her stepmother,
In some ways different,
Some the same,
No matter how I'm seen by the outside world,
I always know my place.

I am her stepmother,
Her father's partner for life,
I will show her how to be a mom,
And how to be a wife.

I am her stepmother,
I will struggle,
And I will cry.
When her innocence is threatened,
I will stand,
And I will fight.

For she is the future,
She is precious,
She is worthy,
And I will try,
To give her everything within my power,
Everything that is right.

I understand if I receive no credit,
I am prepared to accept all blame,
All the wonderful joys of having a place in her life,
Are worth all the tears and pain.

She has taught me the meaning of selfless love,
The value of every second of life.
I am so blessed to see the world,
And myself,
Through Haylie’s eyes.

this is a very lovely poem. and your stepdaughter is very lucky to have such a loving and understanding stepmom. i am very happy to have read this and i hope that this little girl's extended family understand and appreciate what it means to have someone like you in this little girls' life. i hope you never lose this focus...

Just trying to be a Stepmom without getting Stepped On.

I would like to use part of your poem for a cross stitch piece I am working on for my step mom. I have been working on writing a poem for her for a couple of years now, but have been unable to get it right.I will put on the back of the piece where I got the poem, including the link to your blog, and your blog name. If you email me back with your permission, then I will put your name as the author on the front instead of your blog site on the back. Please let know. Thank you!

"Gartan Mother's Lullaby" is an old Irish song and poem written by Herbert Hughes and Seosamh Mac Cathmhaoil, first published in Songs of Uladh [Ulster] in 1904. Hughes collected the trad melody in Donegal the previous year and Campbell wrote the lyrics. {source: Irish Country Songs - Herbert Hughes}.The song is a lullaby by a mother, from the parish of Gartan in County Donegal, to her child. The song refers to a number of figures in Irish mythology, places in Ireland and words in the Irish language. (Gartan is often misspelled as Garten.)
