my sister-in-law is a stepmother to a very, well, horrible brat of a child. she's 11 and very vindictive and nasty to SIL. i have seen this child in action, and she isnt allowed to play with our kids.

anyways, her sd has a school project and wants to use SIL's craft markers. SIL said no, but my brother thinks that she should let her. or else he would buy the sd her own. SIL is very upset that my brother is being such an a-hole to her. the sd has never once apologized to SIL for anything. it's been a tough year for them.

Creature isn't allowed to use my stuff.

Same here, I generally don't let EITHER SS10 or DD11 use my art supplies primarily because they've wasted them or didn't put them back, put the cap back on the paint etc. They have no respect for my things or even theirs.

Mine either. I have two large baskets full of craft items the kids can use. Mine are in my room and off limits.

Depending on what kind of craft markers they are, they can be very expensive and not appropriate for child use because they cost an arm and a leg to buy. Our kids have their own craft items that are appropriate for kid use. They do not touch my craft items and I don't touch theirs...

SIL needs to explain to her DH that craft markers can be expensive and using them on everyday-type school projects will wear them out and make the tips blunt and unreliable for SIL's future crafts.

Exactly. For a school project he can get her some Crayola markers. Or you could buy them for her.

Right:) Crayola is all a kid needs. Unless they're in college and doing some fantastic project, then yeah I'd say let them use the craft markers.

SIL's Dh might be surprised to find out SIL isn't the only one who wouldn't let ANY kid use their expensive craft stuff. It's not about his daughter...this is an any kid rule in my opinion.

Oh my, this happend in my house too, only DH was supportive of why BMjr wasnt allowed to use Punks markers. Of course BMjr thought she was entitled to use them, afterall if Punk had them she should too. It was explained to her that with maturity and after showing she takes care of her own markers she can get some expensive ones too. Punk had already done this and that is why he had nice markers. She crams the tips and leaves caps off.

Kids dont need anything more then crayola - find me a teacher that is going to look at a kids project and say "Well I can see you ONLy used Crayola"

Whatever.
