Spin Off on Professsional Beggars--The Sample Cart At Your Nearest Store
I think some people go to the store on "sample" day just to get a free meal and block all the patrons in the process. Then it becomes an opportunity for people to socialize and crowd all the aisles. Excuse me, I have some shopping to do on my list of about 27 errands--it's lovely you're all retired or on some freebie handout program chatting and laughing away while keeping me from my whole bean coffee.
I have to also laugh at the sample cart in liquor stores. I'd LovE to sample your wares however this is NYS and the po po practically parks outside hoping to snag someone who has generously sampled the latest incarnation of apple-cinnamon flavoured vodka.

Sometimes you just have to change your shopping day.
Our store has a seniors day once a week, I avoid it like the plague!
It's a great idea. Buses and volunteers bring in seniors, meat is pkged in single servings, produce is cut up and sold in trays (a slice of watermelon, a slice of cantaloupe, a slice of honeydew), baked goods in single servings, smaller sizes of canned goods are on display, that kind of thing.
However, it's just a big social outing and they spend 20 mins chitchatting at the checkout.
I once waited while the cashier got the paper and pointed out an obituary of a lady that used to go in weekly. They discussed life and death while my ice cream melted. Sigh.

I actually love shopping on seniors day. Gentlemen still open doors, you can see that twinkle in their eyes when they stumble upon a friend. Just good vibes all around and I'm usually the youngest customer. Buy your whole beans on off days and bring a cup with you to enjoy while shopping.

Yeah, it's annoying - especially during peak shopping times.
I live in a pretentious, hippie, mini-metropolis and I've noticed there's a gaggle of male yoginis with their skin ass tight pants and half shirts along with socially awkward artsy type older women that do this at a health food chain. They sip and slurp and "ooooh" and "ahhhh" over every freaking flavor, while obliviously blocking the aisle with their sideways cart, catching-up with their cronies.
I've adjusted my shopping days. Lol
My father was my nephew's
My father was my nephew's after school care. They used to go on sample day. They had a cute code name for it. Which I can't remember. But it was good memories especially since Papa died so young.

not only is your light beer more alcoholic then out normal beer but you can actually sample booze before buying }:)
for the food sampling... Oh hell not touching that, it's been there through out the day, with various of people touching it, dipping their fingers in there, flies all over the place... brrrrrr no thanks, just had to swallow my coffee twice... I do not even enter a shop if something like this is going on.... I rather go without food before doing my shopping... and I always have beer at home

I live across the street from Costco. Bad idea to go there during lunch time on the weekends, sample time. Too crowded. Oh well
Now I love when the Haskell's
Now I love when the Haskell's liquor store does the samples in the store because that is how I go outside my comfort zone and find some awesome wines that I might not experience otherwise. If not for sampling I would never have found out my love of Vouvrey.... the difference is I buy.
