Whatever happened with Thanksgiving? Did you still host your own Thanksgiving? Did your DH's family attend yours or go to SD's?

Im here, We did go to SDs on Thursday and I hosted on Sunday.

She had 40 people over and had a relaxing, stress free day drinking and being queen of the castle. I learned SDs secret to a successful holiday dinner - don't do any of it yourself. When I arrived there was a woman in the kitchen setting up the food, a woman in the dining room setting the table and another refreshing appetizer trays and cleaning up napkins and empty glasses. Those women later cleared the table, packed up all of the food, set up dessert, did all of the dishes and cleaned the kitchen. The food was delicious, but SD didnt make it. She had it catered from a restaurant, from appetizers to desserts, along with a few other things people had made.

And the dishes. We spent 14k on 12 place settings and some serving pieces. When SD called the adults in for dinner the tables were set and there were place settings for all 32 adults. I had a drink with SD's MIL during cocktail hour and she told me what a wonderful idea it was to give SD and SSIL the china. She and her DH, as well as BM and SF, had each gifted SD and SSIL 12 more place settings of the china so that they had a "full set" and the kids could have something to pass on from all of the parents.

I did not realize that 36 place settings was a full set. I took a xanax before I went to her dinner and I'm about to take another one right now. I get mad every time I think about that whole weekend.

I drove separately, came late and left early. Girls had a great time. DH had a great time. All 3 told me multiple times how much fun it was and we should go back next year. BM and I managed to avoid each other for most of the evening. Actually I made the effort to avoid. BM seemed to be at ease the entire time. It seemed like everyone knew everyone except me and DH, and DH was on a mission to mingle with SD'S FIL and SSIL. I felt uncomfortable and self conscious and on edge the entire time. I'm skipping over a lot but that is the bare bones version of my thanksgiving.

Glad to hear it went "well".

How big is SD's house that she could formally host that many people?

It's pretty big, a little over 3000 Sq ft. It has more to do with the layout of the ground floor though.

That's a whole other part of the story involving my family thanksgiving on Sunday. But needless to say I will be volunteering at the soup kitchen next year if things pan out like this again.

Oh, and no DH's family did not come to Sunday Thanksgiving. Everyone was busy. We saw them at SDs.
