Headlice

Not only is it Monday, but SS's school RN called-he has lice. And I cannot for the life of me, figure out how this happened. He has super dry scalp, so when he complained of it hinge the last few days I doused him in coconut oil and told him to make sure when he visits BIL that he showers (he stayed over a few night a couple weeks ago). He used to complain about this constantly when he was living with BM but since he's moved here and is showering regularly it hasn't been an issue all summer.
Ugh. I was supposed to be working today. Now that he's been Nuvo'd becaus he's apparently allergic to nix, I'm off to the laundry mat with a heap of clothing.

Clean hair or dirty hair, showering regularly or not, LICE happens.
Its not because your "dirty" its a parasite that lives and spreads human to human.
Your analogy to lice and the child being "clean" would be similar to thinking people catch the common cold because they don't shower, or get bit by misquotes because they don't shower.
How did he get it you ask?
Simple, schools back in session and hoards of children are all lumped into the same building all day long, same reason why 1/2 our kids have a sniffle or cough, they spread their germs and parasites when they are at school
Oh yeah-the showering
Oh yeah-the showering explaination was given not because I think dirty people get lice, it was because he has dry scalp and when he misses his regular showers it gets worse (he's got special shampoo). I didn't look for lice when this all started-a few days ago because I assumed it was dry scalp from not showering. Now, or at least this afternoon, I killed 4 adult lice.

Lice are resistant to the
Lice are resistant to the pesticides we treat with now--a growing resistant, so multiple treatments are usually needed to get rid of these nasty pests. Plus, beyond the live stuff you have to get rid of every egg or you reinfest; you have to actually comb and pick the eggs out, or the cycle starts all over again.
Any fabric material can maintain transfer residue for 10 days. That is why nurses tell you to bag up stuffed animals for over ten days. Lice love fine clean hair actually, the blonder the better, this includes furniture, sheets, automobiles--it is horrible.

Omg it's 11:15 here-it's been a full 12 hours since the news broke and I became aware of this. Since:
I used the Nuvo method on SS-8fl of cetaphil was smeared and scrubbed into his head, combed, blow dried and 8 hours later washed out. I killed 4 adult lice, and from the re-check it seems to do have done the trick. I need to repeat once a week for 2 more weeks. Did I mention he has autism? For the most part-he's really high functioning. Today I learned he has some sensory issues.
After that I cleared all stuffed, plush animals from my home. It looks really empty now-they're all in bags l, vacuums sealed and in the basement chest freezer. I bagged all pillows- throw pillows bed pillows, in air tight bags-also now in the basement. Clothing that I had weeded out that no longer fit the kids that was sitting in a laundry basket got the same treatment. Stripped all the bed (4 bedrooms) bagged that and sent SO to the laundromat to hot box/wash everything including laundry.
In the middle of this, SO texted me and wanted to let me know he got BD from daycare and was going to bring his niece over. The same niece that lives with BIL-and BIL's house is the only place that SS has been besides home and 3 days of school in the past 22 days. I flipped, because now is A not a good time and B. Potentially the reason this is happening in the first place-I don't know for sure but after all that we need at least 48 hours-visitor free. After threatening to cut off his balls and put them where his eyeballs should be, he came home and apologized. Sometimes I swear, some men are just-I don't know but they don't think.
I then sprayed lice/bedbug/something else I can't remember killer spray on every piece of plush furniture,set up fans to properly ventilate prior to that, vacuumed mattresses/plush furniture, wiped down anything my daughter could touch/put her mouth on that the spray could have touched.
Then we lost power for 4 hours.
Once it was back on, I finished vacuuming the entire house, including curtains and my daughter's play tent castle,checked BD, checked SO, got checked myself, showered SS -rechecked him-remade all the beds.
I hate Monday.

Make sure you comb through his hair to get any nits that have hung on and will hatch.
When my kids had lice the combing was actually very calming, especially after all the cleaning and rushing around. They laid their heads in my lap (on a towel) and I combed through their hair while they watched TV or played gameboy. (Yes, it was a long time ago, LOL)
you have to clean out his
you have to clean out his room, all bedding, leave the pillows etc in the sun, spray it with tea tree oil,
then warm water wash all bedding, towels, hoodies.... caps, beanies.... add some tea tree in the warm water with detergent etc.
boil all brushes and combs, add tea trea to his shampoo!!
spray your car seat with it as well.....
so glad we do not have this problem over here, yes sand lice, ticks, spiders, but no head lice

Take all of the usual steps, spray, laundry, bag up the pillows and stuffed animals, RIDX shampoo, etc... and shave his head and keep it shaved for a few weeks.
