SS: Why do I have to go to summer school?

Me: You have to pass 2 of the 3 core courses. You failed all three.

SS: But the report card says I passed.

Me: The report card states you have an average of 65%. Yes, that is a pass. But in order to move on, you have to pass 2 of the 3 core courses.

SS: I don't understand. Is my report card the right one?

Me: SS, please try to understand. This is not elementary school anymore. The rules are more strict. In order to pass you have to get a passing average grade (which you did) AND you have to pass 2 of the 3 core courses (which you didn't)

SS: Is summer school all day?

Me: Yes, from 8:00 to 2:30.

SS: Huh? School starts 9:00

Me: Summer school runs on a different schedule.

SS: I still don't understand why I have to go if I passed.

Me: SS, I don't know how else I can explain it to you. Do you want to call the VP so she can explain it to you?
