OT - LA Clippers
Do you agree with the sanctions put on him for his conversation with his mistress?
I am on the fence. I mean, I know the man is a pig and a racist. But this was a personal, private conversation that he was having with his girlfriend. Everyone is entitled to their own private thoughts, and opinions. IMHO. I feel he should be able to sue the pants off of the GF. He already got her pants off one way. GAG!!
On the other hand...the man should have known better than to say crap like that to a gold digging ho.

It's ridiculous. Should I
It's ridiculous. Should I check everyone for a recording device or camera before I engage in personal talk or actions? Can I not have a thought that is non-PC and articulate that thought to someone close to me? Are we all supposed to become PC robots?
Ya know, if he acted on it, I'd have a different opinion, but his thoughts and his personal conversations, I couldn't give a sh*t about.
For the record, I'm appalled at what he said, but I very much think he had a right to say it and a right to privacy; and had he said it publicly, a right to public sanctions.
Yup..reminds me of Paula
Yup..reminds me of Paula Dean. She got fired for something she said 30 years ago in the privacy of her own home. Terrible. But I like her. Donald Sterling...not so much.
I just googled that.. wow.
I just googled that.. wow. But its okay because why???

Hopefully my answer does not offend anyone here.
It is ok because they are famous black men. And famous black men seem to have a pass on saying ANYTHING. Be it rude, racist, sexist of whatever.

This truly saddens me. I was
This truly saddens me. I was a huge Shaq fan as a kid, he played on the team where I live at one point in time and was very prominent in a lot of local charities, not to mention his involvement/endorsement in the "toys for tots" program.
I am really upset to read this. I realize he is a "celebrity/athlete" and not someone I actually know, but wow!
It amazes me these old men
It amazes me these old men think the hot, young woman want them for their looks and sexual prowess. Their egos are so big they don't see these women are after 1 thing..money....and will keep doing what they want to get more and more of it.
don't like what he said,
don't like what he said, buttttttt this was a personal convo...it's gotten way out of hand...so people should be fined for what they say in private to someone???....bullshit!
And remember..this was in
And remember..this was in privacy with a woman he was screwing. It was not like it was talking with the commissioner of the NBA himself.
I am just floored that a lot of people are ok with how this was handled.
im with ya Willow...I think
im with ya Willow...I think its complete bullshit!
This kind of reminds me of
This kind of reminds me of the Chick-Fi-Lay thing. You ask a Christian man (whose multimillion dollar franchise is closed on Sundays) his opinion on Gay Marriage and when it is in line with his Christian views you attack his character? It became a media circus and I don't care what anyone says, the media is a business too and ratings are important.
This current situation... do I agree with what this guy said? Nope. Do I believe he had the right to say it? Absolutely 100% yes. People gave their lives to give him that right. Disclaimer- I haven't followed the story close enough to know if his personal beliefs were crossing over into business practices and if that is the case then he reaps what he sows and should have known better.
YES YES YES YES

I don't agree with Sterling's
I don't agree with Sterling's actions but I also don't agree with the league's actions. I think that they should have allowed the fans/players to boycott, fine. That would be normal and expected consequences. But who has made the league the morality police?
And if they are taking that stance, then it has to be enforced across the board because contrary to what SOME people think, there can be reverse racism as well. I also hate the double standards.
They can call themselves the n-word. But no WHITE person better say it! Unless, of course, the white person is a good enough friend to enough of them that they aren't offended for the white person to say it. But a black person can call a white person cracker, honky, whatever they want...and that is not only ALLOWED but EXPECTED...all because we are whites living in the US. I am just as much an immigrant as they are (even more so, I was born in Germany - not on US soil) and MY great-great-great-great-great ancestors didn't have ONE DAMN THING to do with enslaving your great-great-great-great-great-great ancestors!
I also hold a very unpopular and un-PC view that THEY are probably better off right now (even if and ESPECIALLY if they are on welfare) than their great-great-great......ancestors' descendants who are still IN Africa!
I had hope that having an African American president, even if only partially, would bring this country together. Instead, he has divided it worse than ever with his own comments and actions.
"They can call themselves the
"They can call themselves the n-word. But no WHITE person better say it!"
I hate this phrase. Who is 'they' ? I'm black & I don't call myself the n-word. My husband is black & he doesn't either. Our children better not even think of it. A few 'bad seeds' in my family do - the 3 or 4 young men in & out of jail. The rest of us do not. & I have a large family, my mom has 10 siblings & my dad has 11, all married with children. My mom/dad being the youngest in their families.
I just hate this 'they do this they do that'. I don't want a white person or a black person calling me the 'n-word'. I don't know why people think "we" are all rappers running around calling people b's and ho's & n-words. LOL
The black community is a HOT MESS & people think that this is better off than 'they' would be in Africa. First of all, there's no proof either way. I'm here now, my ancestors are here now. What I DO know is that if my ancestors were treated fairly my family wouldn't have had to struggle like they have to be where they are now.
People are so peed off at sterling because he's making big bucks on the backs of young black men & banging a young woman of color but then stating his hate for 'them'. Do I think the NBA should fine him or make him sell his team? No. He could try and build a team of all non-black players, & players who don't mind his point of view. I'm sure it would fail, & he would end up selling anyway.
PS: I also don't call white people or any other race derrogatory terms.
/endrant. Please ignore my rantings & ravings. It's just stuff like this that really grinds my gears. Telling me all about how 'we' are. Usually these completely racist statements are closed off by stating how racism is dead lol.
And furthur more, I am not an immigrant. I am an American. My great, great grandmother was enslaved. My grandmother was born in 1921. & I am only 23. Lets not add all these greats like it's soooooooo far down the line. My ancestors were stolen. Not immigrants. Wasn't their choice & totally different.
I just finished typing my
I just finished typing my insane crazy frustrated reply about this. I hate it. I'm black. My husband is black. & my children will (I imagine) be black lol. I'm carrying my first child right now.
& sometimes, how people look at me in the store like i'm a GD theif when my household brings in well over 6 figs a year & I have never stolen a thing in my life, I think of people like this. Assuming that I'm one of "them" calling myself the n-word. -sigh-. But this is how the world is with 'racism dead'. Things will sadly probably never change in my lifetime. & sometimes I really think if it was worth it to stay in the US & bring my children into the world here.
Soon as I saw this title I knew it would turn into a bashing black people for what 'they' do. Of courseeeeee it's black america's fault the NBA fined this crazy old man. We obviously used our black powers to make them fine him & ignore other racist black people. I'm sure there's racist white players who haven't been fined either.
/end pregnancy hormone rant
Sorry for lumping all
Sorry for lumping all together. I know better as a kid who was called a Nazi most of my childhood because I was from Germany.
I also have a SGK that I never get to be around but her daddy is black and I don't harbor any ill will towards her because of the creamy latte color of her skin.
"know better as a kid who was
"know better as a kid who was called a Nazi most of my childhood because I was from Germany."
this ish grinds my gears too. Just all of it. I'm not on welfare, or poor just because I am black. I also can't rap. Or play basketball. & I'm sure you aren't walking around saying 'heil Hitler'.
I didn't even know who Hitler
I didn't even know who Hitler WAS when I was being called a Nazi. I had to ask my parents what they were talking about.
I saw a program about a black man who made it his calling to go to as many KKK meetings and meet with as many leaders (forget what they are called - Grand Poobahs or something) as possible in an effort to get them to at least have a more open mind about "different" people. I found that so inspirational. He considered some of them very very good friends and even was given one of their outfits. I don't know why the guy isn't FAMOUS because HE is doing more to bring races together than our own President.
I wished that it didn't HAVE to be that way but I wished there were 1,000,000 of people like him for every one person like Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton, whom I believe harm race relations.
I grew up in a 2 parent
I grew up in a 2 parent household. My parents are still married. When I was younger, my mom was a SAHM with my sister & I. I only saw my dad when he wasn't working one of his 2 jobs (he had a night shift job & ran his own business he was getting off the ground. He later on supported us solely off his business). When I was like 4ish, I remember seeing a guy that I thought looked like my dad & telling my mom "LOOK it's daddy!" She said "no honey, daddy is at work" & this older white woman was like "poor thing hasn't seen her daddy in so long she doesn't remember him. It's a shame how they do their kids."
My daddy kissed me goodnight every night & busted his butt for his family. Just because I was a black kid doesn't mean my daddy abandoned my mom. -sigh-
I am getting all kinds of
I am getting all kinds of girl crushes today!! ITA with you too misstep!
Let's remember that this is
Let's remember that this is an NBA sanction, not governmental involvement in any way, shape or form. He said something stupid, but he has a right to say it. The NBA also had a right to act in accordance with their (apparently secret) bylaws.
Don't confuse free speech with no consequences. There are no consequences FROM THE GOVERNMENT. But NBA can act however it wants to in line with its business practices. Food Network was completely within its rights to fire Paula Deen. If I say or do something racist, my employer would fire me. And rightly so.
I think Sterling is an ass and it was way past time for the NBA to do something. Maybe this was an accumulation of racist antics. Had this been the only incident then, yes, I agree it was harsh. But it wasn't.
ALL racists need to be called out and held accountable. Just because other racist actions haven't been acted upon, doesn't mean this one should be ignored too. We ALL need to call out bad behavior.
He's free say what he wants
He's free say what he wants and the NBA is free to say they no longer want him to be a part of their organization.
He will use black men to make his millions and even sleep with a black (or half black) woman. Yet he views those very people asĀ inferior to him. If that doesn't scream plantation mentality, I don't know what does.
DS22 graduates from Hampton University next Sunday. Earlier today he texted me a copy of his final grades ~6 As with a 3.94 GPA. People sterling and the cattle man will always view my son as nothing more than a black thug from the hood.
Honestly.... This whole
Honestly.... This whole "political correctness" really makes my skin crawl.
The sick desire to voice
The sick desire to voice racist views makes my skin crawl.
Want to be a racist ass? Have at it. But don't turn around and play the victim card or blame political correctness when your ignorance results in you losing your job or NBA team.
I should probably add that
I should probably add that double standards make my skin crawl too.
