Oh to be young and in school again

This is slightly OT

I'm jealous of SS. There. I admitted it! Smile

I look at the things he has to do for school (namely the projects) and I am stunned. The things he has to do...I did for fun!

"The Hobbit" is required reading....Holy smokes, I read that book for fun!

TWICE!

One of SS's art projects is to create an art work using the lyrics of a song. I made my own posters for the inside of my locker. John Cougar Mellencamp, The Police, Michael Jackson kept me grounded....and I made a little shrine to them and my favorite songs in a little tiny space with magazine clippings and stickers.

SS has a presentation that he has to do on any branch law enforcement. Are you kidding me? Miami Vice was the hottest show ever to hit TV in my day. Any article or news reports on vice-squads I ate up because the subject fascinated me.

The more I think about it, if today's standards is what is necessary to pass through middle school, I wouldn't have needed had to go to school at all! The things I did in my spare time and my choice of hobbies should have been enough to keep me on the honor roll!

I hate to sound like my grandpa....but kids today really have it easy!

One of my buddies went to our high school reunion last year. He called me up the other day and said "Drac0, you are not going to believe this. The school day ends one hour earlier than in our day and after school detentions are no longer given because too many parents were complaining that the students don't have enough free time after school."

Yeah I know right? How will poor little Junior function without his requisite daily 4 hours of texting, xbox and Spike TV?

Forget his mother for a moment....What about his new lady friend Vicky!? The girl is cute, smart and is completely and utterly smitten by SS...

Why? I ask you...WHY!?!? In my day, the only way I could land a girlfriend like that is if I was some rich Sultan's son.

I dont agree. I have highschool Freshman who would also disagree. He may have it easy now....but once you cross that highschool threshold its a whole new story.

Much more work, much more detailed work and much more expectations then we ever had in highschool.

Since your SS doesnt like to apply himself you probably wont see that reflect in his homework as he ventures into highschool

>Much more work, much more detailed work and much more expectations then we ever had in highschool.<

Yeah you're right. These days they expect cover pages to essays to be typed and printed in color.

Math 31? As in introduction to Calculus?

1/0 = ∞

There. That's Math 31 in a nutshell.

Next?

Sorry, cannot control the geek in me sometimes.

Okay, okay...I'll behave...

But a Venn diagram may help me

Some STalkers are engineers.
Not all engineers are STalkers.

Therefore; which of the following is true?
a) STalkers and engineers can coexist in a forum dedicated to step-parenting.
b) Engineers and STalkers can relate to each other on topics outside of stepparenting.
c) Captain Kirk is way cooler than Han Solo.

Hey I'm straight and I get weak in the knees for Captain Malcolm Reynolds...(Well pretty much anything Joss Whedon makes).

I know, right? BS17 will be going to college next fall and I'm envious! Of course, I read textbooks for fun. I'm a total geek. These kids have no idea how wonderful life is when you go to school instead of work!

And Miami vice? Hell yeah!

I think it depends on the class AS WELL as the school when it comes to how hard the classes are.

I graduated HS about 7 years ago and in some of my advanced English classes, we would have multiple papers due, minimum of 10 pages single space.

And yet in the same school, people graduated with me who had less than a 6th grade reading level. The ones who show promise are put to the grindstone, while the dunces are just shuffled through so the teachers don't have to deal with them.
