DH is stupid and so is the "affordable healthcare act"
So, we got the letter from our insurance company stating that DH/SS's policy is about to expire and we can either go to marketplace or we can try and find a new policy with them. I called and found out our options. We can't afford to put them on my company policy since that is 3x what we currently pay. We are just going to have to bite the bullet and pay the 25% increase for basically what we have now.
I let DH know what is going on and tell him that it will all be effective either Dec 1 this year or we can extend for 12 months at our current policy and do it Dec 1, 2014. He get's all stupid and starts spouting that the government can't make him do anything, blah, blah, blah- just take out a huge life insurance policy on him and screw insurance. I calmly remind him that life insurance won't help him if he gets hurt and needs things like - x-rays, mri, ct, prescriptions, and so on. And what about SS? He needs to have readily available medical care. He just gets all huffy and stupid still going on that he is getting rid of health care. I tell him that there are penalties and that he doesn't have much of a choice. It sucks that we are getting screwed losing our current policy but it is what it is. I didn't vote Obama in office, but there is nothing I can do about it.
Anyway this goes on for a while- the whole "Nobody can MAKE me do nothin'" crap. And that is when it hit me and all I wanted to do is scream- THIS IS WHERE YOUR A-HOLE SON GETS IT!!! No wonder he has no respect for anyone or anything. He is taught that he is above all rules from YOU! Way to go, Father of the year.

The "Affordable" Healthcare
The "Affordable" Healthcare Act is a pile of crap. It sure is affordable for those getting it, but taxes will certainly go up for us!
We are also going to have to pay for the subsidies that many recipients of Obamacare will receive, on top of those increases.
Like Willow said, there should be a time limit for this. After 6 months, you are D-O-N-E and can sink or swim.
The thing that sucks is that
The thing that sucks is that for middle class families it isn't even affordable!! 9.5% of our income is well over double what we are currently paying. How on earth is it fair that just because we aren't dirt poor we are penalized and have to pay so much more for the same thing as someone else just because they make less??
There are responsibilities that come with not working at McDonalds. I have to dress professionally, I have to actually pay for my kids day care, I have to actually pay for food, I have to pay student loans for my education. At this point I think I would be better off giving everything up and living off the government! At least I could get all of the above for free and live ghetto rich.
"How on earth is it fair that
"How on earth is it fair that just because we aren't dirt poor we are penalized and have to pay so much more for the same thing as someone else just because they make less??"
Exactly! People can blame "big, bad" corporations all they want, but those corporations don't enact these stupid laws. What really gets me is that Obama and our Congress exempted themselves and Congressional staffers from this BS.
The way things are going, we might as well stop working and file for all these benefits.
I am all for helping people who are TRULY destitute, who are TRULY disabled and who TRULY need it. Many of the recipients of welfare programs have these large hoop earrings, have some/all of their hair colored, and fake, large nails. I know this because I have been inside the places where people collect their benefits for work purposes.
And many welfare recipients claim they have health problems that prevent them from working. Yet they have multiple baby mommas/daddies.
That stuff kills me too! Me
That stuff kills me too! Me and DH pull in a decent income to live comfortably. HOWEVER, that means living within our means. I don't get my nails done, my hair only gets done every 3 months, I don't color (but I will when SS drives me grey!), we are just responsible members of society. Amazing that doing the right thing is what is going to put us under...
Technically we (my skids and
Technically we (my skids and I are dirt poor) and we still don't qualify for the "subsides" they claim we can get. We are too high above the "poverty line". My employer cut all hours to part-time to escape the healthcare mandate, so I have to work freelance to make ends meet. My kiddos get no support from their bio-dad, and dh's company makes damn sure that they "can't afford" to allow him to cover me and my bios. So I have done the "right" thing and purchased insurance for myself and my bios for years now privately. I used to be able to write the premiums off on my taxes, as they were "after tax dollars" but now I'm not even sure I'll be able to do that and the insurance company sent a letter saying they would be increasing. When I looked into the marketplace options for coverage "comparable" to what I now have it was an additional $375 a month. Two words: Fuck That.
That is what our problem is
That is what our problem is with DH and SS. My employer is awesome enough to cover almost 100% of my healthcare but doesn't cover any cost for families. To add them to my company plan would be about $500 more a month now than the private plan I have had for them. The cost went up about 25% for keeping our existing plan for the next year, I haven't had a chance to look at the marketplace but from my understanding, since my employer offers healthcare cost that will fall right at 9% of DH and my income we don't qualify. We just have to pay thru our nose even though what we had was what was good and affordable for us.
I saw a map of the United
I saw a map of the United States recently highlighting (I think) 5-6 states who ALREADY have more people on the welfare rolls than people working!
That is a scary, scary thought. When did those citizens lose their pride and go the scam route to live instead? I know not everyone on welfare are scamming the system but there are WAY too many that are very obvious to you and I.
Yes...that is who this is
Yes...that is who this is hurting the most. The middle class.
I believe that if you are poor in America today...it is a choice. (Excluding, disabled). There are two many ways to better yourself. There are too many ways to get educated. There are too many ways to make sure you do not work at MC'Ds once you hit the mid 20s.
But too many people choose to NOT get educated. Choose not to put in the time and work up the ladder. Choose not to, NOT have kids when you can not afford them.
I am starting to think though, that this Obamacare is forcing poverty on the ones who did everything right to make sure they were not poor. The middle class will become the lower class and the lower class will become the middle class. And none of them will have to actually work for it.
This new "tax" and law is
This new "tax" and law is just going to permanently get rid of the middle class. There just won't be anymore of the generations of people that work and honest day, pay their taxes and just want to do the best they can for their families. I sound like my grandpa talking but it is the truth.
THIS is SD22! She just
THIS is SD22! She just graduated with a BA in Creative Writing in May. She told us she doesn't want a job where she writes. Uh, what? She only just got a job as a waitress so she can go to clubs every night. She supposedly has Mono and Epstein Barr so bad that she is too fatigued to do anything, and goes to the dr constantly, but is partying most nights. She told DH she is going to go back to grad school next year, but hasn't even started the application process. She's happy just living with Mommy. Talk about an eventual drain on society.
Your DH sounds like Guilty
Your DH sounds like Guilty DAddy who thinks he's the King of Turd Island. The rules don't apply to him (or his kids when he was watching their grades go below failing due to not being required to do homework or schoolwork by mommykins).
He is extremely screwed:
Made 33K last year
Pays $1,000 a month in non-arrears CS
Doesn't have health insurance coverage at his small business because $75 a week was too expensive
I'm pretty sure that Obamacare will not exempt his CS payments and give him a subsidy.
Yep, they sound just a like.
Yep, they sound just a like. The only difference is that we are the primary parents for all of our kids...
Why is his CS so high? My ex over 2X that and that is more CS than I get.
Yep NCP, all three PASed out
Yep NCP, all three PASed out and living in good ol' NYS. 29% of gross income plus "add ons" that she doesn't use. All three are on her cadillac health coverage as she works for CPS.
