Pop-Quiz: How Did FDH Respond to This Question? Answer is Multiple Choice
Quiz Below:
So, yesterday FDH and I both worked from home. All day long, the dishwasher was full of clean dishes. We were both really busy with work so we allowed our breakfast and lunch dishes to pile up in the sink (which is usually a no-no for me). The kitchen was a mess.
He left to pick up the Skids for visitation and Sd12's counseling appointment. After he left/when work was done, I unloaded the dishwasher, etc and when he arrived home hours later, he was greeted with a perfectly clean kitchen. He cooked dinner in the kitchen so he clearly spent some decent time in it after he got home.
The rule in this house for the kids is that after dinner, they clean up their place setting, scrape their plates, rinse and put dishes in the dishwasher.
SD12 is always the first to finish and get up from the table. I hear her do everything up to the point of the dishwasher. She then asks: "Are the dishes in the dishwasher clean or dirty??" So how do you think FDH answered this question?
"Are the dishes in the dishwasher clean or dirty?"
A- Please open the dishwasher and check. I am not sure.
B- I believe they are dirty as Anne cleaned the kitchen earlier so put your dishes in there.
C- I am sure they are clean. Just leave your dishes in the sink and we'll take care of them.
D- What does it matter? If they are clean, please empty the dishwasher. If not, just add your dishes in there.
E- Anne? Are they clean?
Any guesses???

E- Anne? Are they clean? That's my guess.
E, because C implies he is
E, because C implies he is sure about something having to do with the dishwasher and that can't be right.

Hint: my quick response was "Why would you assume that?????"
It was C. I'd have no issue
It was C. I'd have no issue if he waited for me to respond or asked me. My issue was him assuming the easiest answer for her and basically telling her to ditch her responsibility and leave it to me to do her job.
I'd have to guess "E" but he
I'd have to guess "E" but he should of put the dishes away since you cleaned the kitchen before or after he cooked.
He cooks and I do dishes. So
He cooks and I do dishes. So he basically told her to leave her shit for me.

Lol. I corrected him before she left the sink. But I did leave her glass and knife on the table where she left them.
Exactly-- he will always err
Exactly-- he will always err on the side of "whatever is easier for SD". The sad part about this is that she wasn't trying to get out of it. She just asked a question. And instead of supporting her in doing what she should, he undermined her efforts. I mean, she even went to the extent of rinsing out the sink, which she never does. That would have been a great opportunity for him to reinforce the positive. I swear, one of his parenting genes is wearing fricking mouse ears.
