Weird
Had to go to a customer's house today that was on the same street in the same village as Pumpkinhead's house (OSS28). I had never actually been by his house before... I just knew that he and his now wife purchased it about 3 years ago.
It's a long village/ suburbanesque street. Driveway was unplowed; walkway was not shoveled. There was a big pod like container halfway up the driveway and two emptied trash toters at the front of the house that had not been taken back. I glanced down the street and everyone else had taken their toters back (for readers in the UK, wheelie bins).
I had to laugh because this is a HUGE pet peeve of Chef. He cannot stand when garbage toters are not brought back after being emptied. We have a couple of tenants that are guilty of this and Chef hits the roof. I can only imagine if he saw this!
Was wondering about the Pod container. It wouldn't be surprising to me if they are in foreclosure as none of Chef's ferals had any adulting lessons. There were no expectations, consequences or responsibilities.

Sounds like all 3 of DW's younger sibs. The foreclosure thing.
Make that her whole family. All have been in foreclosure on their homes (MIL/FIL, BIL1, BIL2 & SIL). They way over buy, then cry about how mean the bank is when they miss their payments.
As for garbage bins, I take them out at night, and bring them in after both the garbage truck and the recycling truck make the rounds. Though I do usually bring them in late in the afternoon on garbage day. My DW and Chef share the pet peeve of the bins being out. If I have not brought them in by the time she gets home from work, she grouses about it.
Things generally don't bother me. Though I do take my neighbor's bins up their driveway if they are still out when I go out to move mine.
One reason i think Disney
One reason i think Disney parenting is neglectful in addition to being indulgent in all the wrong areas is things like you describe. "They are just kids!" Right up until the time that they are knocking on middle age, and they are adults with no life skills. If they can't be made to do minimal chores or even pick up after themselves as kids and teens, they will probably grow up to be the people with the dingy house that hasn't ever been pressure washed, the overgrown yard with junk everywhere, etc. Dirty dishes, roaches...and people will judge them for it.
ETA i had my oldest son young and i even see a difference between him and my younger child, born 5 years later. My older son is kind of a slob and i realize i just didn't teach him as well as i did my younger due to my life circumstances and lack of maturity.
A kid is not a caterpillar that magically turns into a butterfly
A kid is a protohuman who turns into a full fledged adult through the process of forging by their parents, examples set by their parents, and expanding experiences into what they will be as adults. As so many SParents see and live, lack of heat and forging during what should be the crucible of childhood and the outcome is tragic and decidedly noxious in far too many cases.
An AI synopsis of a study on adult outcomes between kids with chores and kids without.
According to a long-running study conducted by Harvard University, known as the "Harvard Second Generation Study," children who regularly do chores tend to become more successful and happier adults, demonstrating a strong connection between completing household tasks and positive outcomes later in life; this study highlights the development of a strong work ethic, self-worth, and empathy as key benefits of assigning chores to children.
Key points about the study:
Length of study:
This study has been ongoing for over 75 years, following multiple generations of participants.
Key findings:
Children who participated in chores developed a greater sense of responsibility, collaboration, and the ability to contribute to something larger than themselves, leading to increased success in adulthood.
Impact on self-esteem:
The study also indicates that doing chores can positively impact a child's self-esteem and confidence.
It's true. My kids weren't
It's true. My kids weren't raised all that differently from one another, as my son still was responsible for cleaning up after himself, doing his own laundry, did his homework without reminders, etc. But my younger child had "whole house" chores, and we actually went to therapy to deal with resistance and we talked about the importance of learning to "adult", mainly because i was older and realizing how important it all was, for me and them.
Very weird. Are there public
Very weird. Are there public records online you could check?
Yes, but
Foreclosure takes a loooooinnnnngggg time here in NY.
I am sure he will have lame
I am sure he will have lame excuses for poopsie SS. It's only a big deal if someone else is doing it.
The double standard driven by willful delusion.
Pathetic at best. Tragic at any level.
I actually told Chef
About it. His reaction:
"Well if he wants to live like a [insert Girhippo's maiden name] that's up to him."
Girhippo's family being synonymous with "slob."
No matter what YOU do
They revert back to there roots . What's is lazy. Non careing
