People act like ss is something special.
Big whoop he's in a phd program about biophysics. He flunked out of his first college. Had to go to community college and then transfer. It not like he goes into mit or the ivies for gradschool.
He is such a douchebag. Just because my wife didn't have enough "alone time with him", he goes running to daddy. I hate people ASKING about him.

Honestly, I think it starts
Honestly, I think it starts when they are young. That is how it is with my ss. Every since I met him, his family praises him. Even when he sucks at sports or just life in general everyone praises him but when I am with his family one on one they talk about how they are so afraid that he won't end up to be anything. Newsflash! Stop praising children so much!
My inlaws excuse skid crap with the whole cod defence.
Its pathetic and a cop out for all their pathetic behaviour. In front of them they do not address sd issues, ss they will because my husband had full custody of ss in divorce.
sd's its only when hubby isn't around that they will ask me about sd's behaviour.
sd's cut off all contacts with their dad for 5.5 yrs and eldest sd studied the exact degree my husband did expecting him to sing her praises, but she never got that while "ohhh you studied my degree excitement" and frankly sd lacks the basic critical thinking skills relating to hubbys job role of property management.
you know her university thesis for her degree in property management was on village fisherman and how they fish. You'd think since her degree places her in a corporate role she'd do a thesis on something relevant but she picked the easy thing to do.
Wait
You have a skid that actually made it into a PhD program? He has successfully completed 6+ years of higher education? Good for him, that is not trivial and considering what I read on this site, it is pretty darn special.
Your SS might truly be a POS.
Your SS might truly be a POS. But PhD in biophysics is a real accomplishment for anyone.
Lots of students fail out of college and go back later when they are more mature, have focus, have goals. LOTS. It's to his credit that he failed, tried again, and is evidently now successful in his educational pursuits.
That doesn't make him a saint by any means. But this isn't a reasonable complaint.
