Leech's Karma is coming her way again..
Last Friday we got the call that we didn't want. Leech's BM's dad, (Leech's grandfather 97 years old) passed away in his sleep. Through all the years, Grandpop always considered all of us as part of his family, his wife passed away over 35 years ago and he was never close to BM before she died.. He always treated DS44, DD42 and Leech as all being his grandkids. When my grandkids were born, Grandpop opened a savings account for each one for college. Each year he would buy them something for their birthdays, Easter, and Christmas, but would give them an extra envelope with paperwork showing that he added money to their college savings account.
Even though he was BM's dad, he was still family to all of us, and will be missed. We contacted Grandpop's attorney to let him know that he will need to have someone else inform Leech of Grandpop's passing as we do not have any contact with her. The attorney agreed and went on to explain that Grandpop had updated his living trust over the last few years and made all the arrangements for when he passed. Grandpop didn't want a funeral or any fuss, his one request was that his ashes be interned with his wife's, it was requested that DAH and I make sure that his request is granted as Leech can't be trusted to follow through. The attorney said that he would like for DAH & I to come into his office, the changes of the Living Trust will effect our lives as Leech is not going to like the changes.
DAH and I went to the attorneys office on Tuesday and did a Zoom meeting with SGD11's dad. We got the breakdown and changes to the Trust. Prior to changes, Leech was to inherit almost all of Grandpops assets as she was his only living relative, besides SGD11. The Trust includes cash, stock, 6 homes, 20 rentals in 4 different states, plus a local small mobile home park, that Leech is living at now for free.
Changes:
- Leech's mobile home will be removed from the park, (it's a 1955 mobile home) and new suitable 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom mobile home will be installed for her to live in rent and utility free. The mobile home park is to stay under a property management until further notice, the property management has been assigned by the Trustee.
- To receive inheritance from the Trust, Leech must have a clean drug test each month and working. Each month Leech has to drug test and send in her paycheck stubs to the receive the equal amount as her pay from the trust as part of her inheritance. No clean drug test or not working means no money for that month.
- At the age of 55, if no failed drugs test are given within the last 5 years, the mobile home park ownership will be turned over to Leech.
- All the grandkids were named in the trust to receive funds for college. The attorney explained that all the kids can go to college, Grandpop wanted to make sure they all had a chance at a great education.
- DS44 & DD42 each will receive $100K.
- Leech's ex husband will receive $48K a year, until SGD11 reaches the age of 21, this is help with the support of SGD11.
- DAH & I will receive the titles to 4 of Grandpop's cars and a small motor home. Grandpop and DAH rebuilt these 4 cars from the ground up, and enjoyed the time they had together working on the cars.
- The big winner is SGD11, she is to inherit everything else that was Grandpop's, cash, stocks, houses, rentals.
- At the age of 35, the Trustee will turn the trust over to SG11.
- College of her chose will be paid for in full, including living expenses. While in college a monthly stipend of $1500, depending on the cost of living increases, until SGD11 has graduated from college.
- If SGD11 is working while going to college, she will need to turn in her pay stubs to Trustee for a matched amount from the trust.
- After college and working, SGD11 will receive $3000 a month, plus equal amount of her paycheck.
It's a good thing that SGD11 and her dad are living in New Zealand, Leech has no idea where they are living and we are not going to let her know, since she gave up all her parental rights. SGD11 Dad was absolutely shocked that SGD11 will inherit such a large trust, we all of knew that Grandpop had a lot of assets, but not to this extent. SGD dad doesn't want to take the $48K a year, he thinks that money should stay with the trust. The Trustee told SGD dad to open a bank account and save the money for SGD11's future or invest the money for SGD11.
SGD11 dad said that he's not going to mention the trust to SGD11 at this time, SGD11 is aware that Grandpop passed away and is taking it pretty hard, this is the first family member that has passed away since SGD11 was born.
From the few people that have been in contact with Leech over the last 6 months, it appears that she has settled down, but I still don't trust her. I think once she reads through the trust and figures out that she is not the heir that she will rear her ugly head towards everyone, or play the victim. We shall see, I sincerely hope that I am wrong and she will tuck her tail between her legs and stay away from everyone.

I'm impressed
Grandpa is an inspiration.
I'm sorry for your loss.
I'm sorry for your loss. Grandpop was a wise, thoughtful man. I especially like the provisions of the trust that provide for matching the income of the beneficiary. He's incentivizing his heirs to do well for themselves and not just depend on inherited funds. Smart.
Sorry for your loss
Gradpop sounds like he was a great guy. Funds for college are an amazing gift for the grandkids. What a blessing to launch into adult life without debt.
I am sorry for your loss.
I am sorry for your loss. Grandpop seems like he was a wise man, and I'm thankful for you all that SGD11 lives a world away. Leech will be Leech, so do what you need to do about her. Don't hesitate to throw her rear in jail if she starts asking foolish. Grief causes various reactions in people, but you know that Leech won't be sad about his passing, only over him passing her fortune over her.
SGD11 has been given one hell of a gift. Good on her dad for wanting to let her be a normal kid. One thing to maybe suggest to him is letting her take a small amount ($100-200) each month to donate to a cause she cares about. I think the same could go for investing. He has the opportunity to slowly introduce just how much money she has while also teaching her that she needs to be smart to keep herself living comfortably but also has the means to help many others.
I like the thought of SGD11 donating each month
I am going to let EXSIL know your suggestion about SGD11 donating funds each month to a charity of her choice. Right now SGD11 is studying about Maori people and culture, EXSIL's father is Maori and SGD11 is learning so much about the verbal history from her grandfather. She said that so many Maori's are treated as lower class people in New Zealand and jobs are hard for the young Maori to find. There is a food pantry that EXSIL donates to for the Maori families, this might be something that SGD11 could help with funds.

Hi there. I am a New Zealander and just want to let you know that the correct spelling is Maori, not Moari. Thanks.
What a great legacy Grandpop has left. Very very inspirational!
Thank you for the correct spelling...
I forgot to use the spell check.
Thats an incredible shift

Oh my. I am so very sorry for
Oh my. I am so very sorry for your loss because this kind of a man is rare in a lifetime. What a guy! I am incredibly impressed by his foresight. There must be so many people who miss him today. I can only imagine what he was like in his younger years (I lost my FIL at age 93).
(((((HUGS)))))
Thank you, you are so right about him being rare.
Recently Grandpop had mentioned that almost all of his friends have passed on, and he was tired of hearing about friends passing on. We had noticed over the last year that he was slowing down and looked tired all the time. We knew his time was coming, but we were hoping that he would live longer.
Last night, I lost it completely, we had to go to his house and make sure that all the food was removed from the house. Over the years, all the kids and grandkids would make him refrigerator magnets for his birthday or Christmas, Grandpop loved to collect magnets. When I walked into his bedroom to turn off a light, on the wall was a large metal plate that had every magnet that each kid had made him. He had sectioned it off for each child and had their picture at the top, seeing how much he treasured all the magnets just made everything hit home that he was gone.
Oh my goodness, that is a
Oh my goodness, that is a real heart-wrencher! So much love and caring!
Grandpop was real smart how his estate would be allocated out
No freeloaders eligible. Basically leech has to have a job and not be a bum druggie
Wouldn't want to live in that MHP
Once l e e c h takes over if she ever makes the stipulations. It will soon go to hell in a handbasket.
