Father's Day yay...

SeeYouNever's picture

It's that time of year again, Father's Day almost as fun as Mother's Day...

I've two kids with my DH, I was thinking of doing one of those custom portraits where they make you into a version of your favorite cartoon, or one of those custom books he could read with our girls. Then I realized that I should probably include SD in any of these custom family things... And suddenly these are off the table for gifts. Ugh

SD never does anything for DH for Father's Day, DH is lucky if he talks to her on the phone. One year she had a dance recital the Saturday before father's day and we thought we were taking her with us after the show but she informed that we could take her out to dinner but we had to give her back to BM because she had something planned with her stepdad and granddad tomorrow. Ouch. She was on her phone the whole time and coincidentally BM was eating at the restaurant next door.... SD didn't want to spend any more time with us than she had to.

He has never had her own Father's Day for as long as I've known him.

I think I'm going to make some footprints if our daughters to put in a card for DH and make him a nice dinner.

Yes, plan a gift with your two kids. There is nothing you can do about SD.

My DH hasn't had even a "Happy Father's Day" in 6 years. I don't expect this year to be any different.

For me, seeing DH get ignored on Father's Day is way worse than anything related to Mother's Day. My own father is gone, as is DH's, we will just do something fun together.

I think a good workaround for men with PASed out spawn are gifts from pets for FD.

I'm only responsible for Father's Day gifts from things that live in this house!

There is a big difference between planning a custom gift without an SK because you purposefully exclude them versus when they exclude themselves.

I would never encourage a SP to exclude a young SK who visits frequently or would be attending the event where a custom gift "from the kids" is being given. However, with larger age differences and a kid who doesn't bother to celebrate the holiday, not due to lack of invitation or trying, I don't see the issue with doing something from the other kids.

If SD isn't going to be around for the gift-making or gift-giving process, then don't include her. This is a different situation from a kid who is there 50/50 or EOWE who would like to be involved or would notice when they weren't involved.

Nothing at all wrong with doing what you were planning .SD has made her position crystal clear.

I would message SD and offer to help her do something for her dad, if she doesn't want to or doesn't respond- Oh well, you tried and you can sleep just fine knowing that.

I only do things with my two. We don't see ssstb13 much and he's not very interested in dh, so I would only do custom gifts that include my two.
