OT - Tone-up Tuesday

Happy Tuesday, STalkers! I'm soooooo glad it's not Monday because yesterday was extremely POOPIE!!!

What do you do when you're craving sweets? You don't want to eat an entire sleeve of Oreos or a quarter of that cake you baked.
Here are some things to eat:

  • Fruit - contains sugar, along with lots of healthy nutrients and plant compounds.
  • Berries - taste sweet, but are high in fiber and low in sugar.
  • Dark chocolate - contains less sugar than milk chocolate and has higher levels of healthy polyphenols.
  • Sugar-free chewing gum or mints - can provide you with a sweet taste that may help curb your cravings.
  • Carrots - contains ample fiber and has low amounts of sugar.
  • Fruity green tea - sweet and tasty and healthy!
  • Smoothie - make one with skim milk and frozen berries.

I bought vitamins and biotin in gummy-form. They actually satisfy my sweet-tooth and keep me from eating cookies and ice cream. In fact, last night, I actually felt like I'd eaten too many sweets after eating my vitamins!

What do YOU eat when you're craving sugar?

A little semi-healthy treat for me is tossing a banana or berries in a bowl with a dab of sugar-free whipped topping and just a sprinkle of crushed chocolate graham cracker on top.  It does the trick!  It's even MR. ED approved and he's the WORST when it comes to devouring sweets and junk food!

I had an Rx protein bar made mostly with eggs, nuts and fruit. It's 200 cals but filling & sweet.

I also took a Zumba class this morning to burn it off.

Something else I like to do...

Melt a couple of squares of dark chocolate and drizzle over sliced banana or strawberries. Nom nom nom...

I like to slice them, drizzle with chocolate and freeze them.  We all go by and just pick a piece or two out of the freezer for a tiny sweet fix. Yum!

I'm not sure how long they would actually keep.  I know they are great for several days at least.  If you are going to dip them in chocolate entirely, I'd recommend freezing them for 30 mins or so first.  Also, if they're the fruits are too ripe and have a lot of moisture/mushy, they can get a little "icy" when frozen.  I've had the best luck with fresh bananas and berries.

I don't have too much of a sweet tooth, but when I want something sweet I either go for black licorice, the GOOD kind, or some kind of rich, buttery cookie like shortbread.

And now I want blueberries.
