There has always been issues with my step kids not making it to school either because bio mom doesn't’t wake up, the kids don’t wake for the bus, or they skip school after they already went. I get kids will skip school to do fun things, I know I did when I was a teenager but when it comes to my step kids its been happening since they all started school in bio mom’s care.

Just this school year we have gotten a letter from the school telling us of all the absences and tardies our 15yo has. We got something by the courts telling us our son is a habitual truant. Today we got a letter from the school telling us our son got suspended for 90 days, he will serve 10 days out-of-school suspension, he will serve 35 day in the suspension/expulsion classroom where education services will be provided. He will be eligible to return to regular classes by February, by then he has already served 45 days of the 90 so those 45 days will be held in the abeyance providing his attendance, behavior and academic progress. If these conditions are not met he wont be eligible to return to school until May.

The reason he got suspended is because he asked to get put in ISS to be next to a girl which he was told no but he went anyway. While in ISS he wouldn't’t comply with the teacher so he got in the teachers face and told him he wouldn't’t move and he was escorted to the office where he didn't’t want to stay and attempted to walk out and asked the teacher “what are you going to do about it.” He then walked out. The school officer went to get him and grabbed him by the right arm, this resulted in son turning around and attempting to take down the officer who was trying to contain the situation. By then backup was called and further altercations occurred by son which one teacher got a bruise from. Son was still resisting when 2 security men and two custodians showed up. They finally got son to the ground and handcuffed him, in response he said, “You better be happy there were only 5 of you.” He was then transported to JDC.

It makes me sad that this keeps happening and I’m happy that the school is so vigilant on keeping us informed on our son since we don’t have bio mom’s phone number and she never lets us know anything.
