Stepmonster encounter and I'm going to He!!

Aniki-Moderator's picture

My SIL is a stepdaughter. Her mother passed away when she was very young and her father (now deceased) remarried Stepmonster not long after. SIL has 3 step-siblings. SIL and my brother have been married for 40 years and have 2 children (adults). Their kids are the only ones who have ever met the step-siblings. I couldn't even tell you their names.

SIL is damn good to her SM. So much so, that SIL is the first person that SM calls when she needs something - which is often. SM's biological children are always "too busy" to do anything for their mother. Doctor appointment? SIL takes her. Grocery shopping? SIL takes her. Ceiling fan needs dusting? SIL does it.

Thanksgiving was at my brother's home. Naturally, Stepmonster was invited. An 85yo woman with a high school mean mentality. When her husband was alive, she treated him like crap - he couldn't do anything right, talked down to him. Every time I see that woman, she is catty and hateful.

Three years ago, one of my nephew's and his wife had a new daughter. Stepmonster didn't "approve of" their baby name.
SM to me: Sorcha. How awful. Don't you think that's an ugly name? (Mommy is Scottish.)
Me: I think it's a lovely name.
SM: You DO?!?!
Me: Yes. I do.
At which point, my sister chimed in and said, "I think so, too. Unique and pretty."
Stepmonster looked at us like we each had 2 heads, shook hers, and mumbled to herself.

So, Thanksgiving. DH and I were sitting on the couch. He worked an extra-long shift the night before and was tired and sleepy. I fixed a plate of appetizers for DH and one for me, handed him his, sat down and picked up my wine glass. Stepmonster says, "Wow. You baby your husband." I gave her a bored look and said, "No. I simply don't mind doing little things for him since he works so hard."
IMO, Strike One.

About 20 minutes later, I took our empty plates out to the kitchen, refilled my wine glass, and got DH another beer. Returned in time to hear Stepmonster say to my sister (the only other person in the room at the time), "As soon as Aniki sits down, let's get her to take OUR plates to the kitchen and get us more drinks." My sister said, "I'm not doing that." and turned back to watch the football game.
Strike Two.

SM: Aniki, have you lost weight?
Me: Yes, a little.
SM: Well, good. You need to. You're pretty damn fat.

What.The.F*ck.
What kind of person says that? Yes, I'm overweight, but I'm not a freaking beached whale. And Stepmonster, who is built like a stack of tires, has NO room to talk. That was the last bloody straw and my temper - usually a unicorn - let loose.

Me: I feel sorry for you, Stepmonster.
SM: WHAT???
Me: I feel sorry for you.
SM: SORRY for me - why??
Me: For whatever happened in your life to make you so negative and hateful that you find it necessary to talk down to people and treat them like shit. You must feel terribly ugly on the inside to try and make others feel badly about themselves. I know you're old, but it's not too late to go to therapy, get help, and strive to become a decent person.

Stepmonster's mouth was flapping like a fish out of water. My sister, brother, nephew, and nephew's wife all started laughing. I was mean to a mean old bat. Going to he!!.

Awesome job Aniki !  And you're not going to hell, at least not for that  lol

She sounds like a nightmare, but at least she is upfront about being an awful person, plenty of people (even on this site) like to hide behind text and get their jollies by being mean to others.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Major, she is indeed a nightmare. I have never liked her, but have always been polite. But that nasty old bat had the unmitigated gall to flirt with my father. AT MY MOTHER'S FUNERAL. In front of HER husband, no less. My Dad, in his grief, did not even realize it. But my sister and I did.

Stepmonster is, IMO, a low-down, scummy POS.

Major Blunder's picture

Ok, WOW, she is a piece of work. I always thought hitting on someone at a funeral was just in the movies, jeez I lead a sheltered life.

Bahaha. I'm sorry as s*** you had to deal with that. But how you handled it was PERFECT! Like oh my gosh you're my hero Aniki!!!

Good for you! Someone had to tell her off.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

PA, I'm certain that Stepmonster will tell her friends (if she has any) how horribly I treated her. This woman has been a beeyotch to me for 40 years. Guess I had my fill...

Let them think how they please. To everyone else, you're a bada$$ Aniki.

Sometimes someone has to call out that kind of person. Im afraid SD16 will eventually be a mean old bitch like that unless she lightens up lol.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Chmmy, I called her out, but I honestly doubt it will make a difference. I won't see her again for at least 6 months.

Momjeans, I'm not a cape-wearing kind of gal!

In the words of Edna Mode:
No capes!
Do you remember Thunderhead? Tall, storm powers? Nice man, good with kids.
November 15th of '58! All was well, another day saved, when... his cape snagged on a missile fin!
Stratogale! April 23rd, '57! Cape caught in a jet turbine!
Metaman, express elevator! Dynaguy, snagged on takeoff! Splashdown, sucked into a vortex!
No capes!

Not yet, movie going has been low, real low, on the priority list over the past couple of years, I will definitely see it but might not be untill it comes out on demand or dvd.

It is?????   Oh wow, I really need to get out more or pay attention more or something, I'm so sad and pathetic, I need to go back to my corner  Dash 1

Thank you, Aniki,  for putting this rude crass woman in her place.
She deserved it.
OMG, I can not believe she actually said those things!
Is she perfect?

Sorcha is a beautiful Gaelic name.
It may be uncommon and unknown in the US but it is a beautiful name for a girl.

Thank you for the laugh on the "built like a stack of tyres".
Michelin man image with a SM face...*crazy*

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Letti, I actually almost typed "Michelin Man" but was not certain who would know that!

CLove's picture

I may be dating myself, but she sounds about like that mentality.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Perhaps. I never considered Archie to be catty and hateful - more narrowminded and crass.

Aniki you are not going to h3ll. If anything you did this woman a favor. You started your conversation with her by saying you feel sorry for her. That shows how much compassion you have in your heart. She really needed to hear everything you told her. Hopefully she will take a second look at who she is and how she treats people. But it sounds like being rude is who she is. Good for you and your honest response to her acting like a total -itch.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Queen, it's good to 'see' you!! xoxo

She definitely needed to hear it, but I fear that it's too little; too late. Stepmonster has ridden roughshod over people for decades and proven time and time again that she cares nothing for the feeling of others. I honestly believe that she takes pleasure by inflicting pain on people. Unhappy for whatever reason, so she does her best to bring others down to gain some sort of sick satisfaction. The old Misery Loves Company.

I've put up with her barbs and crap behavior for years. I've reached my saturation point with her BS and, from here on out, will not allow her to get away with treating me badly. Age is no excuse.

I would have given anything to be a fly on that wall and see that play out LMAO!!!! Good for you Aniki and that old hag needs a dose of reality. She really is miserable and hope she gets some help.

Just the thought of her mouth hanging ROFL

Aniki-Moderator's picture

She NEEDS help, Siempre, but I doubt she'll ever get any. After all, she thinks she's wonderful! *bad*

standing up to her. I sometimes think we are too tolerant and get walked all over when we don't want to rock the boat. But I wonder if people with behavior such as this would stop if we stood up to them in the first place.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

I think that's a big part of it - people don't stand up for themselves. So beeyotches like Stepmonster gleefully walk all over people.

I've reached a point in my life where I'm DONE and will no longer tolerate that kind of BS.

You are my hero!!!! Good for you!  And you are not going to hell Aniki... can't say the same for old Fanny Arsebucket though.
