OT: I just got a $209.36 bill for blood work. WTF!?! How do I NOT pay that full amount?

I went to the dermatologist last month for acne.....My insurance sucks! The dermatologist recommended that I get bloodwork done before he could come to a final decision on what kind of medication to put me on. I went to a nearby lab and got my blood work done that same day. I recently got the bill from the lab and it is a whopping $209.36 that I don't fucken have! If I would have known that was going to be what I was going to be paying I would have said "No fucken thanks" The only reason the dermatologist recommended bloodwork was so that he could have put me on a certain medication. At the end he put me on antibiotics that blood work was totally unecessary(sp?) for him to just have put me on antibiotics. I am beyond pissed. In tears pissed off! I DO NOT WANT TO PAY THAT AMOUNT!

How do I get out of paying that full amount!?! I was expecting a $35 bill from the lab NOT $209.36!!!!! I don't even pay that much for my insurance! So mad!

See if they billed your insurance to begin with. If they didnt bill your insurance give them the information of the insurance company. However if they billed insurance and insurance only covered a little leaving that balance left or they dont cover lab charges then the sad deal is you will have to pay. If you dont pay the full amount in one lump sum then see if they will take payments. If they dont take payments and you dont pay then they will probably send it to a credit collection agency after so many months of nonpayment.

You can call and claim hardship. Many times the provider will lower your bill if they know you want to pay something but can't afford to pay the whole amount. I did this once and knocked a bill down by almost 50%, but I had to pay the remaining amount in full immediately.

Definitely call the lab and communicate you have a problem paying that amount. You might have to fill out some paperwork but it will be worth it. They will usually try to work with people to get their money even if it is a lesser amount.

The number one reason medical bills end up in collection is because people do nothing.

Its a national lab close to our house. Now, to make matters financially worse for me I was just told that $395 are going to come out of my commission check. FML!
