O/T sorta...money from US Attorney General

jojo68's picture

This morning when I checked my bank account online and I got a random direct deposit from the US Attorney General for a pretty nice chunk of change. I have no idea what this could be for unless it is for some back child support that was collected from something...I never filed a claim for child support with the Attorney General (I'm dumb and never went to the trouble) so I'm stumped...anyone have a clue?

You've not received a letter of explanation? Call you bank and ask, sounds like it could be an error. Whatever you do, don't move a dime of it until you know for sure.

did you file an ammended tax return or something? this happened to me, we filed an ammended return and ended up getting additional money back and the deposit actually hit my account before the letter from the IRS came in the mail. It took me a bit to figure out why the goverment was giving me $ since I had no idea how much we would be getting back from the ammended return and my online banking didn't say "IRS" it said something wierd.

Other than that, I got nothing

Keeping my fingers crossed it is something like that...I didn't file an amended return but if the IRS audits a return they correct it for you and maybe that is what it is.
