No college worries here - SS16 summoned to court
Just heard from SO that BM got some kind of a summons for SS16 and her to appear in court in the next town over - apparently stemming from the incident where SS16 was out on the street over there during Labor Day weekend (I thought that happened here in our town, but I was wrong).
BM doesn't speak English and has no knowledge of the courts - she just told SO that she got something and she's very upset. SO is going to go see what it is and to talk to SS.
Considering that BM, SO and I are all at the point where what we're looking for is some higher authority to demonstrate to SS that he can't do whatever the hell he pleases, this may not be an entirely bad thing.
He used to be such a good kid.

Well, thank God he is going
Well, thank God he is going through the system now at 16 while still a juvenile in the eyes of the court. If he had been any older, he would be considered an adult and dealt with most likely much more severe. Not to mention having it go on his adult record.

SO came home a while ago with the papers that came to BM. I didn't know the whole story of what happened Labor Day weekend and neither did SO. Apparently SS was picked up trespassing at 4 in the morning. BM was working 3rd shift and SS had told her he was going out and would be home by 12. When the cops called BM she told them she couldn't leave work - she doesn't have a car anyway - so a parent of one of the other kids that was picked up signed for SS. SO was never called. Apparently SS told the cops he didn't want his father called, and they listened to that, which is bullshit.
Anyway, the thing that came in the mail is actually a "pre-court" intervention for juveniles. There's a copy of an incident report and a notice of a hearing of this "committee". There's a brochure on the committee that says that there will be a hearing with them at which either there will be a resolution to the incident agreed on, or the incident will continue on to court. Sort of like when you get ordered to go to mediation before you get to divorce court, I guess. If there is a resolution agreed on, it goes to a judge for approval and if approved, it becomes a court order.
It says that "parents/guardians" can attend the meeting. So we have to see if that means I can go, or not. And it says bring whatever documentation you think is relevant.
The hearing isn't until mid-November. So we will work on a strategy until that point. I advised SO that we should find out what kinds of things this committee can actually order, and know exactly what resolution he wants before even going in.
At the very least, this means we've actually got an opportunity to find out what the authorities can do to help with SS - since multiple visits to the cops have not helped at this point.
Thanks for the support
