Lipgloss with a light
Lipgloss with a light color....maybe. Full face....heck no!!!!!! Not in my house, at least. Is this on a daily basis or for special occasions, i.e. pageant, Halloween?
Every time she has come over
Every time she has come over to our house lately she has had on eye makeup. I'm sure if she had on lipgloss in the morning, it was long gone by the time she got to us.
Normal to a little early. Ok
Normal to a little early. Ok if very light make up.
I did in 6th grade. Once.
I did in 6th grade. Once. Never again! My friends and I thought we'd be cool and do it and all show up to school with make up on. None of us actually made it to school with makeup on that day!! I say lip gloss maybe blush is ok. If she has a bad complexion and is self conscious about it then maybe concealed or something. If her face is fine just talk to her about how beautiful she is and doesn't need make up..blah blah. Kids try to grow up so fast!
Limited and with quidance
Limited and with quidance from Mom/Stepmom/etc...
I would recommend taking her to a local beauty college for some tips on makeup for young teens.
IMHO of course.
Powder, concealer (if
Powder, concealer (if necessary), and lip gloss. I didn't let my daughter start wearing makeup until 7th grade. Powder, lip gloss and mascara. Now, in 8th grade, she has powder, gloss, eyeliner, eye shadow, mascara and blush. She really wanted to wear "the full face", so we went to a makeup counter and got all the "right" colors. Funny thing is, she only wears powder when her acne calls for it, blush every once in a while, but mostly a little eyeliner and mascara.
hmm.. IMO, a little to
hmm.. IMO, a little to enhance the natural look would be okay. Liner? eh. If she has a uni-brow,, might start thinning/grooming or lightly shaping them (plucking the stragglers closest to the eyelid and between brows)
Some girls are forced into
Some girls are forced into it, especially if they are in dance or cheerleading at a young age. That's how it was for my SD. And of course they do it a few times and then that's all they want. But she really didn't start getting "into" makeup until a couple years ago and has just recently tried the full face. She's got a great complexion for the most part so she doesn't really need to full gamet so she's usually doing just eyes.
I would say it was ok if the
I would say it was ok if the make-up is on the light side and what I mean by this...is not bright red lipstick, thick eyeliner, and a base that is 5 shades to dark.
My sd is 12 about to be 13 and she does not wear make-up around me and her father...the reason...get this now! Is because we tell her if she is big enough to wear the make-up she is big enough to take it ALL off with face cleaner! This makes her soooo mad because anything to do with cleaning herself is lihe the worst thing ever!
I think her mom lets her go days without washing her face...you can tell because her eyeliner is smeared and she looks like H**LL. Heck, for that matter, I think her mom lets her go days without bathing......DISCUSTING!!!!!
I was undecided about it. I
I was undecided about it. I wear makeup daily and can do a KILLER smoky eye, her mom not so much. SD would always ask me to "play makeup" with her when she was younger but her mom H.A.T.E.D it (I guess because it was me doing it AND that it always looked better than when she did it). Which is why I thought it was strange that her mom was the one who was applying this (not so well done) make up in the mornings. It doesn't look slutty or anything, it just catches me off guard.
Thanks to you guys, I believe I'll go with "not such a big deal" for now If if starts getting out of hand, then we'll have to re-evaluate. You guys ROCK!
It is pretty early but common
It is pretty early but common enough as well, at least nowadays. I am in and out of middle schools and see this often. The ones that really get me are the ones who don't know how to apply makeup in a mature way, they just rim their eyes with dark black liner and eyeshadow and the rest of their face is pale because they don't know how to use blush....then they just look punk or emo to me!
I'd try to teach her a few tips, and maybe buy her some makeup in nice, flattering tones. Give her a little bit of room to breathe without saying she can't wear ANY makeup...try to realize she's in a place where she's trying to feel more grown up even though she looks like a little kid to you still. If you help her out with a few staples like mascara, powder, and lipgloss she might be just content with that.
Not that I advocate peer
Not that I advocate peer pressure, but if her friends are all wearing makeup, I don't think it is so bad, and I think it would do more harm than good for her to be the only nerd without makeup (or that's how she would feel). I remember being allowed to wear makeup at 13, but that was forever ago. I think you can compromise if she just wants to fit in with her friends. You can let her wear makeup, but then as her thank you to you, she has to let you guide how much and what type. You see her in the mornings right, so you can monitor. You can help her out too with tips because girls that age need tips and advice and to learn wrong makeup from right. You can go thru teen magazines together and shop together. It should be really fun and potentially a bonding experience. For a minute there I wished my skid was a girl, but then again, no thanks!
Seems to me it is too early.
Seems to me it is too early. 11 years old is not a teenager, 13 is the start of the teen years. Just my opinion. I have a question too. Why would my SGranddaughter at age 7 come to visit and be wearing a bra and have others packed in her overnight bag. She is a little chubby and has some "baby fat" but she isn't anywhere near developing breast????? She also acts and talks like a teenager. My SD was 19 when she became pregnant and I remember her trying to get this step GD to hold her own bottle. I would pick the baby up and hold her and feed her instead of the bottle being propped and my SD would say "I want her to be independent". Unbelievable to me but I can't say much because this same SD told me years ago "she respects me as much as she does a piece of shit on the ground".
Well, got that off my chest tonight.
By 11 i was experimenting but
By 11 i was experimenting but was too shy/embarrassed to wear anything that was very obvious - i stuck to nearly clear shimmery eye shadow, light pink lip gloss, and that clear mascara... course by 12 i was wearing thick black eye liner, black mascara, silver eye shadow and purple lipstick on a daily basis so.. ya know lol.. normal is relative i guess.
I don't have girls so all
I don't have girls so all this make-up, period, boyfriend crap is weird to me; plus, I'm kinda conservative. Eleven years old is too young. Why do want our little girls to look like midget women? Let them be kids as long as they can -- no need to rush anything or play into it.
then again, I'm the person who believes g-string underwear is for grown women who want to be sexy for their partners; not teenage girls who don't even know who to fry an egg!
