child support suggestion?
My wife's ex has quit his job and got some sort of pension.
He has voiced to her an undetermined amount but has said it is allot of money...
So he seems to be retired at this point. (and spending a bunch of it)
So my suggestion to my wife was to ask him for his portion of child support in a lump sum so the dumb ass doesn't spend it all on toys made in China for the son. And then find out he needs to try and find a job in this economy and end up getting behind on his child support.
The concern is we use that money for the son's education. we would not be able to pay for such a thing if not for the CS.
What are your thoughts?
Do you see any downfall to this?
Good suggestion?
Bad suggestion?

I don't see a downfall to
I don't see a downfall to this idea. Its worth a shot anyways. She might be entitled legally to a portion of that pensions and it might be worthwhile to consult a lawyer. Either way, the worst possible scenario is that your current situation remains unchanged ie. you have nothing to lose.
We all smile in the same language
A father or mother should be
A father or mother should be allowed to buy "whatever THEY want" with their money for their child. It is not up to you, nor your wife to decide that the money should be better spent on what you feel it should be spent. I honestly don't mean to sound rude, but I do not understand how ex's feel that they have the authority to control someone else's money and how it's spent on the child. Your wife should worry about how she spends HER OWN MONEY (I assume she works and supports her own son as well...if she expects child support from her ex) on her child...other than that, if she receives child support, it should be whatever it is...and if it's enough, great...if not, oh well...
Private school & brand name clothes, etc...are not rights...food & shelter are...and hopefully, his child support covers 1/2 of the true expenses for food & shelter...outside of that, if he wants to buy the kid thousands of china made toys every weekend instead of spending it on the child's education, that is his right as his father...it might not be wise, he might be an idiot for doing it, but it your wife was the one who decided to have a child with an idiot...yes, it's stupid...but you cannot divorce someone and expect that you can continue to control their actions.
