How can he not see what he is doing?

Ten year old boy hit his sister with a baseball glove and told her he wishes she was never born.
After school he mouthed off to me so I told him he couldn't go "farm" with his dad.
I walked outside ams told his dad what happened. He said to send him outside that he wanted to talk to him.

I look outside and the boy is riding the tractor with his dad!

I walk back our there and pulls him off to the side,

"what exactly did you tell (the boy) that now he gets to ride the tractor with you?"

"I'm still talking to him."

"so he gets to be nasty to his sister, mouth off to me, and you reverse the punishment I gave him?"

"I wanted to keep working. I'm talking to him."

"well then, I guess I can't keep talking to you anymore, there isn't enough room on the tractor for all three of us."

While I understand you feel undermined by skid driving around on tractor next to dad...but if Dad has a lick of sense in his head, that kid isn't enjoying this ride. Hopefully he's handling this as I would a captured kid in car. The kid can't escape, can't stomp off and sure as h*ll can't pretend they don't hear him going on and one right next to kid. It's actually a good place to have showdowns, uh, 'talks' with kids. It leaves any interested yet uninvolved sibling ears snooping around, what's said is totally between parent and child and kid is so close they don't dare roll their eyes at parent or start in with any but, but, buts.

I would expect that tractor to come to a halt pretty soon (hopefully a ways walking distance from the house) and skid enter with sincere apologies and an announcement of what his consequence is for being a butthead. When Dad gets in himself, he better have a good explanation as to why he kept kid on that tractor, but don't do it in front of kid.

That's bullshit. My DH does this all the time. Shitty attitude? Mouthing off? Not doing your work or chores? All it takes is a few crocodile tears from SS and it's "that's OK pookums, go take a nap and rest up, you've had a lot of stress".

My DH would totally undermine me like this. That is exactly what he did.

I bet you don't 'think his tractor's sexy'.

In future take the kid to one side, ask him to stand still while you hit him in the mouth with a baseball glove. Then tell him he will be RUNNING after his father on the tractor for 2 hrs.

Your DH needs to understand that this time in his son's life is the time he will learn how to treat women and girls and others. THIS is when he will experience emotioanl growth into a fine young man with a naughty side or a sloth.
