Kids after a reversal anyone?

strawberrygirl's picture

I just want to know if anyone out there had kids after a vasectomy reversal. My DH got his done in October after 10 years of being "snipped" and we have had no luck yet. i know its only been a couple months but there is just this on going fear and anxiousnous that it might never work and i cant stand the thought of never having kids of my own. i try not to think about it and i've calmed down a bit but its always in the back of my mind.

We get the kids (SD11 and SS13) every other weekend and this weekend is our weekend and it always seems to flare up these emotions and it drives me crazy sometimes! Mostly because i can never have the relationship i want with them and DH and i can never truly raise them how we want to and i guess i just want my own already!

DH had a reversal after 6 years. He had it done April 1st and by July 4th I was pregnant. We now have two children and then he got snipped again. What a guy, huh? I don't think I would want that much snipping going on around the tender parts. Anyway, I was told by many doctors and other medical profesionals that with the time between the vasectomy and the vasovasectomy, my age and his age, we basically had a 30% chance of getting pregnant AND if we did it would probably take up to 2 years to happen. Well, it only took 3 mos.

What I do know is that you need to relax. Yes, I know, easier said than done, right? Even the most fertile people will not get pregnant if they are hyper focused on it. Think about all the women that couldn't get pregnant, decided to adpot and by the time they adopt a baby they become pregnant.

I wish you much luck! I know how you feel.

The more recent the vasectomy, the highter the odds it can be successfully reversed. According to vasectomy reversal statistics, 40 to 75 percent of men who’ve had reversals can look forward to fathering a child.

Good luck

I'm pregnant right now. My DH had a reversal after 7 year vasectomy. It did take some time - around 15 months but it was so worth the wait! Our son is due in early May.

Good luck to you Smile

BF and I want his reversed, just wondering about what you guys paid and if insurance cover any (probably not).

Insurance will not cover the cost of the reversal. We are in the same boat, waiting to save enough money for it. I did find a place in the state I live in (NC) that does it for half the cost of the normal surgery. It is a Dr. that has his own clinic and this is all he does. He owns his equipment and tools and does a local anestesia & pain meds instead of the full put you under kind.

I think it was $6000ish at this place vs. like $12-15000 in the hospital. Most of the fees you pay are for the hospital, that's why it is so expensive. I'm desperately wanting DH to have his surgery this year if possible, because he's not getting any younger (he's 10 years older than me) and the longer you wait, they say the lower the chances of success. I think his vasectomy was done 5-7 years ago. A final option is to adopt for us, but that costs even more than the reversal. It's a no win situation either way, financially anyway.

I feel for you Strawberry, and I wish everyone in this boat all the best of luck and baby dust.
