This is probably a dumb question - but remember I am much older than the rest of you.

Do today's condom's actually prevent pregnancy? - because in the days before birth control pills, IUDs, etc when condoms where basically the only option - THEY DID NOT WORK VERY WELL. Better than nothing - but maybe a 50/50 chance ofgetting pregnant after a few months.

I would NEVER have trusted a condom to prevent pregnancy. Back in the olden days when being an unwed mother was a fate worse than death a person relying on condoms most often ended up pregnant. In my parents generation almost everyone was pregnant with months of starting sex no matter how precise their use of condoms.

I always thought they were primarily for disease control. (but I am talking about 50 years ago)

I really don't know. I don't like them, and really... only have had sex with my husbands. (Plus one a-hole who knocked me up as a teen.) I figure if I'm not going to practice casual/reckless/whoring it up sex, then I get the privilege of not using condoms. Wink

Condoms are very effective now. I used them for 7 years with my ex and only one ever broke and I am almost positive that I accidentally snagged it with my nails. Never been pregnant..so I would say they work.

Now a lot of people will actually start intercourse and then when they are closer to climax put on a condom. That is not the most effective way to use condoms and a great way to become pregnant.

Better for men to use them whether women say they are on bc or not better than diseases and lessens the chance of a pregnancy. I don't know how many men have ended up with kids because the girl they were with lied about bc. I know plenty who are married and use them and nothing else and haven't had an oops.

TRUER WORDS HAVE NEVER BEEN SPOKEN....My BF (and myself as well because he pays so much our lives are BOTH affected) lives this nightmare every fucking day!!! Because he failed to do the above!!!!
